Hi people, is anyone experiencing difficulty in getting the 51 to climb at a decent rate without having to really push the engine to it's limits.

I am having issues with maintaining a good airspeed while climbing even at shallow rates of climb.

Fuel is nowhere near max either, the aircraft just seems to really struggle to keep above 170mph during climb.

Cheers.

Mike.

Not at all. In fact I find it hard to tame the beast.

First off, what are you using for your climb power? (MP/RPM).

To solve this we should need more exact figures e.g. from what state you started your flight. If it was from "Cold and Dark" it might well be that the flaps are still fully extended... Just a hint, no offense intended. In fact we are not aware of any such discrepancies. Climb rate does of course vary with weight and external loads. Therefore the only available and reliable figures are derived from testflights with WEP - which is not recommended when not absolutely necessary. Nevertheless we of course have verified those during our Beta-Test. Still with a combat weight around 9700 lbs and a powersetting of 46"/2700 RPM you should get approximately 2000 FPM at 170 MPH IAS.

Hi guys, no flaps down and not heavy on fuel or stores.

I have made some adjustments to the trim and fuel settings and it seems to have improved a lot.

I always start Cold and Dark and do a full check of all the systems including control surfaces and all other vital flight settings.

I will say that it could also be operator related and i may be asking a little to much at times from the aircraft.

It's a wonderful aircraft to fly in general and every time i do fly it it always impresses me.

It's a difficult beast to tame on take off and landing, but that adds to the whole package and overall i think it is without doubt A2A finest work to date.

Cheers all and thanks.

Mike.

Did you check the maintenance hangar to make sure all the components are ok? I remember once (an earlier version of Accusim) with my Spitfire I was having a difficult time climbing- all engine parts were "green" but I went ahead and replaced them anyway. Suddenly the Spitfire was reborn!

Possibly if you pushed your Mustang too hard earlier, it isn't performing at its best now?

Joe

Interesting you should say that i just checked the engine and the main bearings are worn out and showing white metal fragments in the oil.

Looks like i have been to hard on the old girl.

Cheers.
