Ok, here goes my first post...

I was watching an episode of "Dogfights" on the History Channel, and I came upon the story of a B-17 known as "Old 666". She was a heavily modified B-17E with extra guns, including a fixed 50 on the nose. During the segment, I saw the moment when Jay Zeamer, the pilot, actually shot down an enemy aircraft!

Inspired by the imagery, I scoured the internet for a bomber like "Old 666". Unfortunately, I never found one. So I made one nearly from scratch. Using a source file from daviator.com, I replaced the waist and nose guns with twin fifties, stuck two fixed fifties in the nose, and mounted an anti-aircraft gun in the Radioman's Position. Finally, I named my baby, "the Galaday".

But here's my problem: I wasn't satisfied with the the textures I found on the web, so I used a texture converter to turn the Firepower B-17 textures into standard bitmap images. Then, using Gmax, I applied those images to my B-17. But I can't use my aircraft against other online players because they don't have my airplane and I can't post it on the web because I don't have the permission to do so.

So what am I suppose to do: I've got an awesome B-17 I cannot use online, and the only way I can have an online dogfight is if someone else also has my B-17. Any help to solve this problem would be nice.

Cheers!

Hi Sand Josieph,

Being a commercial organisation I doubt very much if you'll get permission to use Shockwaves textures (may be wrong though). An alternative would be to ask the guys at AvHistory if you could use their textures on your model instead.

There are also very talented folks at the Sim-Outhouse cfs3 forum who'd love a B17E (as would I :D ) and may help you texture it yourself.

Cheers,

Pat

ps. got a screenshot please?

Here's some screenshots of my plane in action. Hope you like it!

File comment: Those are the Firepower textures from the B-17's that I'm using. The cockpit model I had to do practically from scratch which is why I used the Firepower textures to save time.

File comment: Here, you can clearly see the fixed .50's mounted on the nose of the plane. I've already shot down several fighters with them.

Looks to be coming on very well! :D

Did you give any thought to contacting AvHistory and maybe using their textures instead? You'd be able to share it and use it in MP.

Looks good! Any thought of making a YB-40? It would be great to have a gunship...
