Are there any plans to do the bubble canopy variant of this superb bit of modelling?

While it would be a welcome addition. I think that it is doubtful. Right now I think A2A is looking forward with all their new products (and rightfully so). We will see what the future brings. Scott has briefly hinted that they are willing to take a look at a minor redo on the Stratocruiser as some people have been asking about updating its Accu-sim. They haven't made any promises, but I think a large part of it depends on community interest.

It would be fantastic if a 'bubble' variant was one day available, as to my eye that version was by far the better looking.

Yes. The bubble canopy was the summit of engineering on the P-47, it could dive faster, more aerodynamic, and had 100% better pilot visibility. This should be added!!!

The P-74 was the version modified to fly in reverse, an unconventional experiment towards solving the forward visibility problem caused by the large engine. A few production models were fielded into combat and a surprising benefit was that enemy pilots were so baffled by a Thunderbolt 'flying backwards' that the American pilots were able to rack up some easy kills. Unfortunately, landing the P-74 was extremely difficult because of the tiny nose wheel and forward cant of the airframe, and all of the examples were destroyed in accidents within a week.

But on a serious note, I've read that the original bubble-topped Thunderbolts had directional stability problems and it wasn't until dorsal fins were added that this was solved.

I completely agree. The biggest disappointment of A2A is the eccentric choice of aircraft. They all get modelled to such a high standard, even the AF range that it is a crying shame that early and obscure aircraft are released. I finally relented and bought the Jug although the razorback version is ugly as sin, like the early spit and P-40. On that note I also don't understand how the early spit can be the Accusim testbed for the P-51D, given the disparity in the development of the respective Merlin versions. I would have thought the aesthetically more pleasing Mk IX and higher variants would have sold better as well as been closer to the P-51D development. Anyway, thats my rant, and at the end of the day it's Scott's company, so he can build whichever models he want's irrespective of customer popularity. :D

I will however add to the growing groundswell of this thread and petition for the release of a patch to a bubble canopy version. Hell, I'd even be prepared to pay for it!
