Hi!
I´m new to this sim and I am trying to configure it right. I have a X-52 and Saitek Rudder pedals and I want a custom configuration with many keys assigned to the stick.

I´ve managed to assing the axis to the X-52 and pedals but I can´t make the "keymapping" section works.

I click on "keymapping" and get a new window with 2 columns. On the right there is only around 12 keys assigned.
I choose a function and click on the right column. I get the "polling" message and push a stick button. The program seems to recognize it because usually it says the "button assigned to another function" message. I answer yes to reassing the button.
After that the button choosed isn´t not printed on the right column....¿?¿?

Per example:
1.- Choose the shoot action. (As most actions in the left column, there is NO key assigned on the right column)
2.- Click on the right column (at the same line where the "shoot action" is)
3.- Push the button I want to be asssigned. (The X-52 main trigger)
4.- The program says that this button is assigned to the shoot action.
5.- I say "yes" to reassing the button.
6.- The right column is not updated so it doesn´t show any button assigned to this shoot action.
7.- I go to instant action but the button I want to use doesn´t shoot :(

Maybe this problem is related to the express/custom setup. I choose custom setup and configure the axis I want to use. Save, exit the program and restart it. I go into joystick config and "express" setup is choosed and not custom....weird!

Any help, please?

You can leave the express set when you assign a key to a joystick button. It soumds like you are not hitting the save button in the lower left corner. You will find more date in the User Manual (located in the BOBII folder in the Docs folder) under Controllers.

When you go to the custom key mapping screen, you are presented with a window with 2 main columns -
*COMMAND* on the left with *KEY* on the right.

Now, if you click and highlight one of the entries under *COMMAND*, it will turn red and a description of the command will appear below. If you press any jstick button or keyboard key, nothing will happen.
Now, if you click and highlight the entry under *KEY* column, you should get another message pop up saying:

"Polling input devices... please press the button you want to map......."

At this point, press the jstick button or keyboard key. If it's readily available, the command will (should) take. If your choice is already assigned, it will give you a warning window:

"This key combination is already used with ....... do you want to remap?" and it will give you the option of *YES* // *CANCEL*

You should be able to remap anything apart from the mouse buttons.

Once you've done your mapping, click on save in the lower left corner, and for safety, exit the game and restart it.

On the right of this window is a scroll bar, and you can scroll down through a large number of key commands. Across the bottom is a
set of filters which you can check. The default is "all", and in that mode, there are several pages worth of key commands, something in
the order of 250 commands. The commands are listed in the left column, and the assignments are listed on the right. For a new
installation, almost all the keys are already assigned, except for a small number of "FK_" entries.

In that case, you should have seen the currently assigned keys/buttons listed in the right hand column before you started your reassignment.

I'm beginning to think you have a display problem, for some reason your window is being truncated...
The only other thing I can think is the keyboard file has been corrupted somehow. You should have a file in the keyboard subfolder
called default.txt, with all the key commands listed, each followed by a number code, ie for the first two entries

ACCELKEY 15
ACCELKEY2 42+15

The second entry shows the appearance when two different keys share the same assignment. This file should be around 4.8kbytes long.

Per example:
1.- Choose the shoot action. (As most actions in the left column, there is NO key assigned on the right column)

The default key assignments for shoot as listed in the right hand column are spacebar, A1_Fire, A2_Fire, A3_Fire, A4_Fire

Thank you both of you for your answers.

After reading them I think it´s related to a graphic configuration problem.

I´ve captured this strange behaviour in two swf videos.

First, I have only the "default.txt" file with the correct size as you can see:

http://www.filefront.com/17729048/DefaultKeys.swf

Then I try to keymap some key to abother one:

http://www.filefront.com/17729068/Keymapping.swf

Any idea????

P.D: Part of the desktop is captured in the video. This is due to the capture program use (Demo Builder). When I
run the game, it works ok.

Yes, you have a problem with displaying screens.

Here is what the screen should look like. In the example I am mapping the "T" key to my joystick button #8:

Image

Do you have a wide screen monitor? If you do try this:

First, set you "windows" resolution (in windows) to your monitors native resolution.

Second, because you have a Wide Screen Monitor try in game setting of resolution:

Set in options->GFX use Windows Desktop Resolution (Recommended)=OFF

Then manually select the resolution (in game) as close as possible to your monitors native resolution from the pull down list of resolution options.

Did you change the size of the monitor text? In BOBII the DPI must equal 96 (the default for windows).

Before we continue, I recommend a fresh new install of BOBII to get back to default. Please follow these instructions:

Each Step is Important (do not skip any steps but number 7 is optional and you can do it later).

1. download the 2.11 self installer (just in case the first was bad/corrupted if you had strange problems).
2. Uninstall old version or BoBII
3. Delete all files from the BoBII folder (leave none). [IMPORTANT: These old files left by the uninstaller can cause issues with the new EXE.]
4. Run a registry cleaner (like CC cleaner - a free program that I have used for years) as you had an old install of BobII (Very Important)
5. Reinstall BoBII game CD or Download version (contains the base program files)
6. Run (execute) the 2.11 the self- installers (only the 2.11 self-installer is needed)
7. Optional - Download and run (execute) the 2.11 MultiSkin self-installer (do not install if your PC and video card are not very strong)

After the install, just configure the axis on the joystick (if needed) and do some testing.

The graphics don't seem to be the problem, in that you are seeing the whole window, and the contents just aren't there. I suggest that you first open the file default.txt in notepad and confirm that it is a sequence of text lines like the ones I showed in my post above, with no strange characters or missing lines. If it is OK, then I think that you have corruption in the other file, keyb3d.bin, which is the hex file of the saved edits. I believe you can simply delete that file, and run the program, and it will create a new version from the default.txt file, which will get you back to square zero. If not, you will have to reinstall the game, I'm afraid, as Buddye suggests, to get a healthy set of files.

Thank you again (both of you) and happy New Year!

Tried everything you told me me and got no luck :(

Now I´ve got a clean spanish v2.2 installation. But the same problem exists so
it´s no related to the 2.11 patch.

¿Any hope with my laptop? ;)

Your PC looks like it should run BOBII but you may need to reduce settings some on large missions. I do not really understand your ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4650
graphic card but it looks like it should run BOBII.

Your key mapping issue is unknown and not understood problem to me. We have 1000's of players who have done Key mapping. It is like you have a bad or bad and old keymap file in your BOBII folder.

When you did your re-install of BOBII using the procedure below, did you complete all steps including step #3 (did you leave an old keymap file?).

Thank you!!!
I finally made it work!!!!
After following several times all the steps you wrote me I decided to make a dramatic change. For several weeks I was planning a windows reinstallation so I change from my windows 7 32bits (Lite version) to a windows 7 64bits (lite version too :)).
After reinstalling the laptop and installing BoB it works!!!! I think it was something related to:
- My windows 7 32bit version.
or
- My directX or graphinc drivers I´ve got where some kind corrupt.

Going from 32bits to 64bits have improved my laptop a little and made this sim works so I´m happy ;)

Thank you again!
