Hi,

After some 3 1/2 hours of flying, Norforce and myself successfully arrive (just) at Kai Tak! 8) 8) An excellent flight, made even greater by the fact that I was trying to navigate with one eye closed and the other trying to be.

Best regards,
Robin.

Great stuff. Kai Tak is (actually was) a great airport. Did you take the circling approach past the checkerboard sign? I need to try this in the 377 :)

Unless of course, you get extremely lucky with your wind directions!!

Unless you came in on RWY 31. I wonder if there was a published approach for this runway? FlyTampa's scenery has a displaced threshold, strobes and even ILS hold short markers for 31. I'll have to look into this :)

EDIT: I just checked. There was.

Yes there was.

Both ends were useable for both landing and takeoff, though RW13 was preferred, and you nearly always (99.999%) had a tail wind coming down the IGS.

There are three anemometers measuring the winds, and they are all considered. Often, they were in conflict due to the terrain and buildings, so the anemometer at the far end out on the corner in the sea was used. Windshear was normal.

Robin,

Thanks for posting those links. Everything you could ask for is there.

Regards,

Mark

looking at the tail art of the A2A flagship livery, I'm just happy that the 'A' in A2A isn't pointy.

Oh, Vulcan, what plates did you use for the IGS approach, or did you visually follow into the airport by heading towards the checkerboard?
