I know this was mentioned in the Accu-Feel pre-release forum, thought I would mention it here. Adding more FS event triggers for wind noise would enable opening window vents to give us the wind noise goodies. I understand that this is in the works for consideration.

I had an idea for a way it could be implemented. Could Accu-feel 'read' each aircraft, and then present a list on the config window of all the default MS triggerable animations...exits, tail hook, concorde nose...etc...at least the ones that could be possibly tied to a vent. If possible, Accu-Feel could also list what animations they are tied to for each aircraft. The user could then select which animations he/she would like to trigger wind noise and maybe even to what level.

For example, flying somthing like a C-130, the pilot probably won't hear the wind noise of the rear ramp open. However he/she might hear wind noise from an open hatch or window in the cockpit. Or the bigger Cessna style window vents might make more noise than the little Piper style storm windows. I know this might make the config window more 'techy' and perhaps less novice friendly but maybe this could all be under an 'advanced' sub section.

Anyway, just some more ideas for the development plate. This product is already awesome and has raised the bar. To echo Scott, I think A2A has once again opened the door to somthing with vast potential.
Cheers
TJ

TJ,

First, just wanted to ask, are you developing a plane atm, or is this a general idea for aircraft you are flying now?

What we are thinking of doing is starting out by making a custom variable available for those aircraft (not many) that use custom windows. They could then simply apply all custom windows and doors to this variable.

The good news is, the Accu-Feel wind sound system does already support cracking of the windows, slowly moving by hand, etc.

Scott.

I have a question, how can I attach the cockpit window to an exit in the aircraft.cfg ? So with this I could hit shift E than whatever number I set for the window an I could then get the wind/engine sound through it. This would be a quick and dirty fix before you get out the real fix.

Are you creating your own aircraft or this is someone else's existing aircraft?

Lol, no sir, I am not a developer. :) Just a non current pilot with some ideas I had thinking of the potential for Accu-Feel for use with exisitng planes. You guys are doing an awesome job already and know what is best for it. I remember flying an AA-1 Yankee, opened the canopy a little in flight...it sure got noisy...and the airspeed dropped due to the additional drag. That is a really cool feature I noticed you and your team put into the P-40. 8)

One reason I was thinking of allowing the user to select which animations trigger wind sounds is that there might be a door in the aircraft that the user does not want to generate wind sound when opening such as door between the cockpit and cabin.

Cheers

Rob I just wanted to get a work around to the wind problem until it is fixed and no, not developing anything. I assume that the exits are defined in the model and cannot be changed or added to the aircraft.cfg ?

For example the CR 1 software Ford tri motor has the cockpit side windows open with a mouse or shift E and so I looked in the config and the exit is not defined as a window;
[exits]
number_of_exits = 3
exit_rate.0 = 0.4

So this model does work with the sound effect when the window is open. but cannot see or find a connection to state that it is a window and not a door.

The FS default set of the available animations (numeric parameters) and events (which trigger the animations) doesn't contain the "windows" literally. There are items named "exits" which generally work as the doors but a smart and creative modeller can use them for whatever purpose (with more or less sense). To use them to animate and trigger the windows is a good idea.
That's why you see "exit" not the "window" in that configuration file. You open that window by "open the door" event, sent by your mouse or keyboard, and what you see is opening window which is driven by the "opening door" animation. The animation is attatched to the object (here the window) by the modeller in the 3D modelling sofware and then the whole model is exported to an uneditable file so it can't be changed by the end user.

But you can edit the aircraft.cfg file and add the door or more doors:

[exits]
number_of_exits = 2
exit_rate.0 = 0.4
exit_rate.1 = 0.4

This will tell the FS, or any other software like the AccuFeel, that the model has doors and FS, or the sofware, will behave accordingly (which in case of FS is limited to displaying the red messages).

regards
ROB
