Guys, have you tried Oil Dilution, with B377 or the B17???

Dilute your oil at the end of your flight, if your next flight would be probably in cold weather situations ...

Hi Guenter,

me in my situations, yes. That issue would also affect the single engines, they work. It must be another reason, especially at normal outside temperatures.

So far I'm 3 for 3 on engine starts if I select "Cold Start" before beginning the checklists. Incidentally, on one attempt I selected "Cold Start" and then reset my career. After that, engines 3 and 4 started fine, but engines 1 and 2 would not start. So, I shut down and restarted FSX, selected "Reset Career", and then selected "Cold Start" and all 4 engines fired right up. Something that the Cold Start setting is doing makes this work ok for me.

For the record, my default flight is the FSX C172 Skyhawk in a Cold and Dark configuration.

My theory that selecting "Cold Start" always allows the engines to be started has proven false. This morning I selected "Cold Start" and was only able to start engines 3 and 4.

I now believe that selecting "Cold Start" just resets the Carb Air temp or Oil Temp to a warmer value (or something similar). If you start your engines quick enough after the cold start, you're good to go. However, if you take awhile during your preflight (as I did this morning), things get cold and the engines no longer start.

This morning I did what another user suggested in another post...I relocated my Stratocruiser to warmer place (Miami, FL) and started my engines. With all engines running, I relocated back to Detroit, MI and all was good. The temperature this morning at Detroit was -1 C (30 degrees F). I don't understand why 30 degrees F would cause these kinds of problems.

I would really like to hear what A2A has to say about this. Seems like an update to simulate a pre-heater would be a rather simple thing to do. Oil dilution as far as I'm concerned just isn't very practical. I never know when I'll be flying next time and what if you're first flight on a particular aircraft is in cold? You would not of had a chance to use the oil dilution. There's got to be another way to conduct a flight in this situation. We're not talking extremely cold weather here.

Perhaps this has already been resolved? I'm pretty new around here...maybe I'm just missing something?

Thanks!

Stacey

The latest version of the B-377 project contains some basic instructions for operating the airplane (see the howto.txt file). I'm still trying to fine tune the engine/prop/systems code, but the result is getting close to right.
