Thanks Lewis I have been there and still couldn't get EAW to work :-(

This is why I still keep a few Win98SE Pentium II,III etc systems around to run older sims properly (like EAW).I keep some older systems than that for DOS type games or simulations too.

Will a true b-17 combat sim project have anything to do with the b-17 mighty eight II rights shockwave bought a long time ago?

If they do , then it must be a sequel to b-17 the mighty eight. Or at least have the crew management fearures like those seen in b-17 the mighty eight.

And let one not forget a Bomber Command version 8) 8) 8) 8)
Imagine B17/B24 by day and Lancs/Halifaxes by night  (personally I wouldn't bother about the Stirling)
The same game map, the same objectives, true distint experiences.

Lets all hope...

Yes ofcourse we must not forget to include a squardon commander mode. But something tells me it will be a very long time before we will see anything . I,m talking 5 + years at least. I,ve been waiting since b-17 the mighty eight for a new b-17 bomber sim so i,ve allready been waiting 12 years for something and this thread is my only hope !

Why did shockwave cancel the b-17 II sequel in the first place anyway? I understand they still own the code and its collecting dust.

Yeah i hear ya , I dont understand why they just release the code so that we can fiddle with if and mod it so we can modernize it a bit till we get a new b-17 sim.
But now its just sitting there doing nothing and i think it will be quite some time before we will see anything resembling a b-17 combatsim from A2A to be honoust.

We share your passion for it, and with our B-17, are in a nice position to make such a sim. But we are taking things as fast as we can, but w/o cutting corners.

Scott.

Can you guys shed some light when we might see some activaty on working on such a project?? It seems people here are more interested in the b-17 as it is , without combat for some reason.

Well this would be my dream. A B-17 modeled like in accusim (with damage modeling) in a combat environment. Can you imagine the progressive "wear and tear" that accusim offers modeled in YOUR B-17 mission after mission? "Engine number 3 likes to use oil after that flak damage we took on mission number 4 a few weeks ago." That sort of thing. Also it might be tough for your crew chief to always find the parts required to do correct repairs. Oh the imagination runs wild!

I have not purchased any of the accusim aircraft. I don't even own Flight Sim X because I would NEED to have these highly detailed aircraft put into a combat environment for it to keep me entertained for more then a day or two. If this happened I would buy every single aircraft they offered. As it is, I come here often to see the great systems detail of this product but I just can't make the leap. I am thinking about getting the DCS P-51 but I am not sure if they will do a proper environment for that aircraft either. Besides, and this is just a hunch, but I feel that accusim is a tad more accurate with these aircraft.

B-17: The Mighty Eighth was ok but it fell short in so many areas. I just want a true B-17 simulation with NO MISSION CREEP (like putting in human flyable escort or enemy). The more they try to add the less detail the B-17 part of the sim would get. Just me thoughts.
