I figured I would give this a try, and just bought it.

I read about some texture and sound mods, but some are from 06, and a few from 08.

Can someone point me in the right direction to get this game up and running as pretty as possible? I DL'd the game, the 2.11 patch, and the battle of France. What else do I need? :)

Thanks in advanced.

Just keep it like that and wait for patch 2.12.
Meanwhile take off and have fun

Hi and welcome to BOBII and the BOBII forums and community.

Just install the 2.11 update and learn the game including the campaign. Do not install the Battle of France until you are a skilled player. Do not install any mods until your game install is stable and runs well without issues as you will have no idea where the issues are and your install will be different.

There are many hints and helps on the sticky threads of the BOBII forums that will aid you so study them.

One step at a time and I hope you enjoy BOBII.

As the BDG is a volunteer operation, who donate our effort to the sim,
we are quite happy to absorb any brilliant new mod, with its author's
permission, and roll it into the next official patch, and if at all possible
enlist the author to the BDG, so there are not a lot of "essential mods"
which aren't contained in the patch. The mods you can find listed
in the two mods threads - Stickman's, and everyone else's - are
either ones of perhaps not vanilla taste, or they've already been
packed into a patch. There have been suggestions that a list should
be made of the former, so people could find them all in one place,
but so far no one has stepped up.

lokitexas,

Any mods that I have here, will work OK with v2.11. Even old ones.
I do not make sound mods. Boreas has made a lot of good sound mods recently.

Welcome! Yes, start with the 2.11 version, it has all the goodies.

Once you have exhausted that ie in about 2014, look at the mods thread.

Then install Battle for France. Prob with BFF is it overwrites the default historical missions, which are great! You can always uninstall BFF, and get the default missions back, but I would exhaust the default missions first...they play differently every time.

Thanks for the replies.

I guess playing so much IL2, I was just ready to get the latest mods. Good to know.

I was doing some instant action last night to get a feel for it. After finally getting my screen resolution set to 1920x1080, and the TrackIR working I am a bit happier. I am having some issues with getting my trim set to the knobs on my X52's throttle. Again, playing much IL2 makes it hard to change the setup you are so used to using to flying with.

I do love the way the 109 feels though. I really like the sound as well. Graphics wise, I noticed are not anything close to what I have seen in the videos. I also clicked the campaign just to "check it out" before I dive into some tutorials on how to handle that part, and was blown away. I love dynamic campaigns. Also even in instant action I love the communication between pilots. Makes it feel more alive.

So far I love:

- Flight model (at least of the 109 but I wont be flying any of the RAF)
- Sound
- The dynamic-ness of the campaign
- Correct skins (yay JG26)
- Simple TrackIR support

What I need to get solved in order to to play more:

- Geting my X52 and Pro Flight rudder pedals set up the same way I have it in IL2
- Tweak the graphics to the fullest
- Learn how to handle the campaign map
- Learn how to takeoff and land. Well more like how to turn everything on in the cockpit lol.

The last 2 parts I am pretty sure I will get with guides, but the first 2 I am open to suggestions :).
My PC specs (not state of the art):
Q6600 oc'd to 3.0
8800 GTS
4 gig DDR2
Vista 64

Again any advice is appreciated.

:) I have the x 52 and managed to get it mapped close to IL2 BUT not exactly.IL2 has some things like Radiators modelled which BoB11 doesn't .
A huge amount of the keypresses can be mapped to the joystick.
I use the wheels as the trim.

I THINK these are my set ups but it has been a long time since i flew.
