Today was the first time I've ever had something fail in flight simming that I wasn't expecting; shortly after takeoff from Bretigny-Sur-Orge, the crew reported that the gear wasn't coming up. Sure enough, the tail wheel was up, the main gear stuck part way down.

Quickly abandoning the planned flight across to Switzerland, I throttled off at 1500 feet and turned downwind to land. The crew had managed to manually crank the gear down, but I half suspected it was going to collapse on touch down and wreck my shiny new toy - the airframe has just under ten hours on it. Luckliy enough though, it held, and after taxiing in and shutting down confirmed that the gear motor was indeed burned out; I get the feeling I was close to the limits on finals the night before and gusts accounted for the damage - the weather over France was pretty poor.

I've bought quite a few A2A products in the past, this is the first accusimmed one - it certainly won't be the last, that short flight was one of the most memorable I've flown in some time, what a suprb addon :D

This is EXACTLY the kind of random experience we work so hard to provide, posts like this are music to our ears. Thanks for posting. Scott.

Great story!! You have to love this stuff...

Have a look at viewtopic.php?f=77&t=25806 if you are interested, for a similar Accusim "courtesy detail" with teh Spitfire.

BTW, what's the safe speed to drop the gear?

I sometimes drop it at 155 mph, and often end up with a broken gear motor.

Thanks,

I usually wait until I am established on final and get some flap out as my IAS gets below 150.
Then I deploy the gear somewhere around 145 mph or less. I have dumped the gear at
somewhere around 150 mph IAS with no problems.

I have over 420 hours on my current airframe with hours close to that on #1, 3 & 4. I had to overhaul #2
some time ago and it only has 250 hours or so on it.

I have had to replace worn gear & tires after some hard landings and have suffered gear motor or linkage
failures from time to time. Even on a few occasions of having to put her down without the gear, the damage
was such that I could make repairs without having to do a complete overhaul to engines.
