In another topic, an idea popped up and I didn't want it to get buried in a semi relivant topic.

Heres the post and original quote from a forum member.

I know, I had posted about A2A making some reno race planes and hardly got ANY replies on that. I would do it but I wilve with capped internet service so I can blow my download info on online flying.

I thought about the same thing... Imagine if A2A gave us the ability to modify the P-51 in the maint hanger by swapping out stock parts and configurations with parts and modification one might find typical to a reno P-51 unlimited air racing team. So you could increase compression, change bore and stroke, change boost pressure, change wing AOI, clip the wings, lower the profile of the canopy etc... So the advantage would obviously be by changing these parts the P-51 would get faster, but the drawbacks would be a change in flight dynamics at regimes other than race speeds and a drop in reliability. Then the user could modify their planes to the hairy edge of performance and the further they go, they would risk not finishing the race.

We saw a simple swap of parts in the Maint Hanger with the spitfires prop, which in turn would change dynamic flight characteristics. I wonder if they could do it to the extent that I am describing?

Obviously, from my point of view this could be an additional addon to the current P-51. So A2A could create income from the additional coding and modelmaking and only those interested in this addon woulkd buy it. I think both parties would benefit, not to mention, it would be another groundbreaking step foreward in FSX development.

So I will apologise ahead of time for my exhuberance on this topic, but when my mind gets going, I can't stop it ;)

So you have to ask yourself, where in the world would A2A get the flight data to back up these "Race Modifications"?

Well.... A representative or the project manager for the, "A2A P-51 Race Pack Accu-Sim addon" would contact the leading Reno Air Race Team and offer to them a partial sponsorship with a small percentage of the sales from this addon to go directly to development of the real plane. In return, the race team would go over flight data they have aquired over the years of making specific modifications to the P-51 racer and share that data with A2A. What better way to obtain Flight and Engineering data completely unavailable to the general public for further FSX development! We know that these teams go above and beyond to obtain data through realtime flight logging, even designing specific equipment to capture this data.

Being an official sponsor of the actual race team, A2A could set up a simulator booth in the pit area of the real P-51 Racer durring the Reno Air Races, inviting air race spectators to sim the A2A products right there in the sim booth next to the real Reno Air Racer. The relationship between A2A and the Air Race team would be symbiotic. A2A would benefit with aditional sales of all their products by increasing awareness of FSX and the Addons they produce to a broader market of aviation enthusiasts that haven't been made aware of the possibilities and immersion of Flight Simulation. The Race team would benefit, by recieving a small percentage of proceeds that can go directly into development of their race efforts. Furthermore, by associating both, air racing and flight simulation, the air race team would get more publicity which would lead to opportunities for more sponsors, more public awareness and an increased fan base from the flight simulation community that is actually simming an exact replica of their current racer...

Think about it.....

:)

I've thought about it.
Sorry..........this would never work without a legally derived contractual agreement with RARA dealing with undisputed rights to all profits from hot dog carts directly to A2A and its official and designated affiliates.

This is a serious project, much more like developing a brand new plane, and not moding the existing one. I don't think that A2A is about that, making race plane, I mean, would you ever go to Rolls-Royce or Bentley to make you a hotrod?

The majority of the Unlimited class Air Racers are P-51s

I think A2A should Accusim a hot dog cart! That would be awesome in multiplayer, when pilots land for their '$100 hamburger.'

Shift+7 shows that the mustard pump is showing wear, and the soda foutain's CO2 bottle needs changed...

I'm not sure Rob would "relish" the idea :-)
