Every little helps here, and some of this did help a little (Perhaps?) BUT still there is something fundamentally wrong here with the coding of this game at release and by implication with the testing procedures that failed to pick such things up before release and with the magazine reviewers printed on the box who seem to have ideal machines or other interests that means any future opinions and reports from such a source are not worth anything.

I assume the only way to change cluster size is to reformat? :(

Partition Magic lets you resize cluster size non-destructively and I'm sure many other programs can as well. In the end, that might be more trouble than it's worth though. There's always going to be a little risk involved, not to mention time and effort. We're talking about one little thing that could have some sort of impact on performance. The $60 might be better put towards your next hardware upgrade.

I followed the tips at buddye's link (much faster now) but when i unchecked the index service in add remove i am still getting "cidaemon.exe" in my task manager.I have checked for virus and none seem to be present. It,s my understanding that cidaemon.exe is the index service program. Can anybody tell me other wise and how do i close the prog permanently. Thanks peeps

Gee hope that patch comes soon (no beta)

A little word of caution.

I tried this earlier on and although it did seem to offer some improvement in the process it screwed up 4xAA on my 7800 and IL2 FB refused to launch. So I now have reverted back to previous settings (as they say). All is now working as it should.

I guess "your mileage may vary" is the best way to approach for this.

Thanks for the heads up anyway :)

I have to say, since i implemented the flightsim XP tweaks i havent had a single CTD in over 10 hours of gameplay, involving massive fur-balls in the campaign. I've also been able to steadily improve the detail/graphic levels without any adverse affects. FPS is usually between 22-32 with no stutter whatsoever.
So they worked for me !

I should think going from FAT32 to NTFS makes a great difference?
On the other hand, already HAD that,so which tip eventually made the difference,dunno.. :?

I would also imagine the Time Stamp. Just imagine all the files a game has to open and run, and then Time Stamp due to it's access. It a lot less writing your drive has to do, I would imagine, while it's still reading. And I would also say the Disk Caching. Don't know how much memory is being used for cache though, but that memory is accessed a lot faster than the hard drive.

Best Regards,
Joe

Hi Guys,

Is there any way to find out how much memory is being used for Cache, or does it just use whatever's available after the programs are running? And if so, is there a way to increase that amount?

Thanks in advance,
Joe

SWAPFILE/VM size can also have a bearing on system performance DO NOT allow windows to control it (it's like a child it gets all its toys out but never puts them away)....Set your own MIN/MAX....I have a 3.5Gb Swapfile...

When adjusting your paging file size, it is worth remembering that if your system is paging, performance will suffer. The ideal configuration for performance would have all loaded programs in real memory at all times--in other words, no paging.

Personally I've found recent implentations of Windows to do a decent job managing the page file on their own.
