Sunday 31-Mar-2024 B-17 Training Flight

Post by Paughco »

As you were: This Sunday we are taking our B-17s on a training mission from Boeing Field (KBFI) to to Mountain Home AFB (KMOU). Our assigned altitude is FL200. Our planned route KBFI -> BLAKO -> V4 -> ATETY -> KMOU. We'll be above FL180 so we'll be IFR. Skyvector route: https://skyvector.com/?ll=45.3312957414 ... ETY%20KMUO.

Here is the SkyVector route with all the VORs that we'll be flying over: https://skyvector.com/?ll=45.3312957414 ... ETY%20KMUO

Orders call for our aircraft to be loaded with a standard light fuel load and a 6,000 lb bomb load.

After we have attained our cruise altitude, we will practice emergency engine-out procedures, including shutting down and restarting one engine on each side of the aircraft (not necessarily both at the same time). Note that instrument vacuum is supplied by engine 2 or engine 3. The valve that controls which engine supplies vacuum is just ahead of the cabin heat control left of the pilot's seat. The vacuum gauge is near the bottom of the instrument panel, directly in front of the pilot.

Meet at: 1830z for a 1900z departure. ***Note: we are back to our daylight savings schedule***
Meet on: Digital Theme Park on JoinFS.
Comms through A2A Discord channel.
Start at: KBFI
Aircraft: A2A B17-G
Local Take-off time: 1100
Weather: Real

Dear Commanding Officer

Sorry, unable to follow this route. My B-17 is not equipped with a GPS so unable to fly to RNAV Waypoints. VOR's, NDB's or Vectors only please.

Also Sir I thought we all agreed that wheels up for the summer will be 1900z not 2000z as you have in your plan above.

The mission profile has been updated with another SkyVector link that shows all the VORs we'll be flying over. Also, the takeoff time has been changed to 19:00 Zulu.
