Re: Naturally Aspirated GA Airplanes -- High or Low?

I usually plan and fly the route in the sim the same as I would in RL. For me it depends on route length, airspace, terrain, and winds generally in that order. The deal altitude for most of the stuff I fly is between 5000’ to 6500’ MSL and I like to be above 3000’ AGL whenever I...

Re: Accu-Sim Bonanza in development, cockpit first look

Lookin good. The power quadrant, cowl flap, and aux fuel pump locations look like they'd take some time to get used to for anyone mostly familiar with Cessna and Piper layouts.

Well done with that last minute right turn instead of trying to stretch the glide over the M11 too!

Re: The secret airplane in development

Couple of things, 90 KIAS is 90 KIAS regardless of altitude, it also doesn’t necessarily have to be a cruise speed. Trimming for this speed may simply mean they want to gather data for reference. It does of course need to be above VS0. Additionally above 18,000’ you must use a mask eve...

Re: How warm is the heater in a 172?

Like Oracle said it depends on the the aircraft, older 172’s with the stock wing root vents are impossible to completely close. I distinctly remember one flight I made from KRNT to KYKM on a cold winter day, where I had the heat knob pulled out all the way at 9000’. I was fine until I ...

You can get this from Skyvector too. It's under the "layers" option (next to the Lat/Long on the top right), with a bunch of other nice tools if you haven't seen them yet.

Pitot heat bug, but whose bug is it?

I had my pitot tube freeze up during a flight today while flying the Cherokee, I wasn’t in visible moisture but I’ll chalk that up to P3d/FSX not being aware if you’re in a cloud or not. I immediately turned on pitot heat, and at the same time started a descent since I was getti...

Re: Which gauges help determine the necessity for cowl flaps

With experience you get used to what’s normal. I personally use the letters of the gauge as a guide. In the 182RG I fly the CHT usually sits between the “A” and “D” in “HEAD” when viewed from the left seat during both climb (cowl flaps open), and cruise (co...

Re: Speed Record

Yeah, it looks like they did beat Rear Bear's record but not by 1%, which I guess is the standard. Sounds like maybe an oil pressure drop hindered that last lap by forcing him to stay closer to the field.

Still a great job, it's amazing how they continue to find speed in these aircraft.

Hard to get used to seeing Voodoo in white. Still looks good though.

One of the instructors at my flying club did a presentation about it a few years ago.

Maybe this has some helpful info for you.

I agree, finally something to replace the Saitek TQs that's also reconfigurable. Hopefully it uses better potentiometers too. I'm also hoping the reverse thrust levers are an axis instead of buttons.

Re: Today's flying adventure...

Well there's something I've never thought about when flying Pipers. I would have been hesitant to takeoff with the door inop too, thankfully most airports around here are pretty active. I wonder how often that's happened. I'm also curious what country you're flying in that you could loose your licen...
