Re: Praise for Glicksman's writing on the Connie

Note the comment on Page 68 regarding the retractable tail skid installed by the USAAF on the C-69's: "This was removed from all civilianized C-69s as airline pilots were expected not to be so careless as to need such an embarrassing device." About 25 years later just such a retractable ta...

Re: KLM and the L-049

At one time with the US Navy R4D's, it had the flag stars and bars towards the rear. Different for sure! TuFun, excellent point. I was not aware of this. My main point of information was when I was a co-pilot for Eastern Air Lines (1966-1972) and as the old paint scheme gave way to the new "ho...

Re: Engine manual

Speaking of which, does anyone know where to find a chart of when High Blower should be engaged? The CLIMB Checklist (p. 128) only says "...at appropriate altitude." Back in 1966 I applied for a pilot position with TWA and was rejected, in part because I did not know the answer to that que...

Re: KLM and the L-049

Researching for possible L-049 repaint. Does anyone know which shield of the "Arnhem" the red-one (right) is? The left is of the city of Arnhem. http://garfield.home.xs4all.nl/pics/l049arnhem.png It appears to me to be the same shield but, as with national flags, the order (of these two i...

Re: The Accu-Sim Connie is in beta

Its a good selection of box art, the model come out the same era as Monogram Avenger and Dauntless, late 1970's I'd guess. I made both of those Monogram kits and, if my memory hasn't failed me completely  , I believe it was somewhat earlier, more like the early 60's. No matter, the film runni...

Re: Captain of the Ship 049 "Connie" 12-minute promo video

... the point of failure was the metal. The issue was that they were putting out 1/3 more power on less than 1/3 more displacement and the metallurgy just wasn't "up to snuff" to handle it. Excellent point! Many years ago, when I was a professional helicopter pilot, I had a passenger who ...

Re: The Accu-Sim Connie is in beta

Here's the Monogram version, in a 1/131 "fit the box" scale. Is this the same one as the Revell? Looks like it goes back to when they were competitors. http://www.oldmodelkits.com/jpegs/Monogram%20PA19-98%20Connie%20SA.JPG It looks more like the Heller kit to me...tip tanks and the extend...

Re: The Accu-Sim Connie is in beta

Very sure it was 'Monogram' and the 'Revell' company brought them https://dl.dropbox.com/s/5aj0yfqak7o77ni/revell-h245-98-super-g-nm.JPG?dl=0 This is the one I was thinking of and I believe it was long before Revell bought Monogram but I stopped tracking plastic kits about the time that happened. I...

Re: Captain of the Ship 049 "Connie" 12-minute promo video

Regarding landing at GA airports, I'd say it's as much a case of runway width as much as length. Mike, it's also a function of runway load carrying capability. And, even though a runway may be able to support a particular actual landing weight of the aircraft , some airports (KTEB, for example) res...

Re: The Accu-Sim Connie is in beta

Ian, I remember it, too, but I can't remember who made it; Revell made one of the Super "G" in Eastern Air Lines colors, and there have been at least 4 other companies over the years. I wish I'd bought the Revell kit because I eventually flew as a co-pilot for Eastern, though not the Conni...

Re: Should we allow some political discussions on the forum?

I enjoy philosophizing as much as the next person but I don't think an explanation is necessary or called for...it's a simple Yes/No question.

Re: Should we allow some political discussions on the forum?

Hey, Nullack,

For someone who voted "No" you were sure happy to go off on your own rant. The whole idea of the questionnaire is to decide whether or not to allow such conversations on the forum. Let's wait for the results before jumping in, eh?
