This article pretty much hit the nail on the head as far as I am concerned. My brother-in-law was a proud employee of Boeing for 30+ years when quality and safety ruled the roost. My takeaway from this accident is most successful deep diving manned submersibles use a homogeneous material for the pressure vessel where the folks ride and are usually spherical. One last thought, carbon fiber layups are not usually unidirectional in my observation. But what do I know?
