Re: How to set up the radio navigation

Nice glimpse of Mount Edgecumbe. You're also the second person recently that I've heard / seen call Wrangell "Wrangler". Funny that there's commonality there. The other one was a new-hire at my airline... Thankfully we got her corrected before she showed up to do her Southeast OE trip. 😁

Re: The Comanche and I - A Bit of a Struggle

Just a thought (I only skimmed this thread so apologies if it was mentioned): it's common in the Comanche (and many small airplanes) to not see much indication of battery charging with the engine running on the ground at idle. If you ease some power on, up to around 800 - 1000rpm, you might see more...

Re: aircraft engine stall when IDLE on ground

Those are the two choices for cleaning plugs in real life. The best option in the sim if you don't like this behavior is to install the fine wire plugs via the tablet. I went this route, after taking the time to appreciate the fouling behavior A2A modeled, which is very good. I find this type of thi...

How bout a Cub? Can't we just have a Cub?

... Or maybe a Stearman. 😉

Re: 3k mile round trip finished. Some thoughts...

If I flew anything for 33 hours and lost first a cylinder, and then an entire engine, I would likely never strap it to my backside again. You might want to adjust your failure rate 😁.

Re: Good article about the continuing Boeing culture of failure

Agreed. The joke I always heard was that McDonnell Douglas bought Boeing with Boeing's money. Despite the fact that the purchase was ostensibly of MD by Boeing, they ended up with the MD execs running the outfit, ousting the Boeing culture of engineering first and replacing it with the MD bean count...

Re: Good article about the continuing Boeing culture of failure

To big to fail, certainly. I've been saying since the Max crashes that this really highlights a failure with the idea of having critical national infrastructure privatized and tied to the free market: Boeing cannot compete with a state sponsored competitor on cost. But they've been obligated to try....

If you're renting, you want to be charged on tach time. 😁

Re: Piper J3 MS 2020

Super Cubs are great planes. But for pure stick and rudder flying, really nothing beats a J-3. Having 85hp and even 100hp versions of a J-3 would be fantastic, but a Super Cub is becoming too much like a normal airplane ;). In the spirit of sharing some J-3 love, here's a video from last summer, of ...

Re: Comanche First Flight

I've always found it best to just disable crash and damage detection in a sim. All it really ever does is cause erroneous crash or damage events like what seems to have happened to you. Let's face it - you know if you really crashed, or overstressed the airframe. You probably don't need detection. ;)

Re: Landing Technique

Can't say I ever thought I'd hear the phrase "mach 2" applied to anything related to a 182 😉. Nothing happens very fast in a single engine Cessna. Certainly, the primary controls on any small plane can typically overpower the trim. But it's still useful to use trim to reduce required contr...

Re: Landing Technique

Yep, in general I agree with all that. In addition to having hands off the primary controls in the flare, there's the issue of having too much nose up trim during a go around - you don't want the plane to have too strong of a tendency to pitch up with a power addition, while you're slow near the gro...

Re: Landing Technique

90 is definitely too fast, regardless of what the manual says, just based on how the airplane flies. 80 works much better. Also, I still think the nose drops too aggressively with a power reduction. It's possible that this is related to my personal control set up of course, but for me, I see a level...

Re: Compass and Navigation not equal

I’ve heard that...I don’t remember in which book I read that, “Navigators are funny folks who when asked for the time, will answer with something along the lines of 12:47:23, when all I wanted to know is if it’s before or after lunch”. Cheers, Rob There's an old saying about navigators as...

I can see by reading through this exchange that you and I are to say the least not on the same page together. Without throwing any malice your way I'm just going to leave this where it is if possible and disengage as I see no constructive purpose is served by continuing this discussion. Let's just ...
