Re: KLM and the L-049

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Q9LDAVDy0w&sns=em Here is a video of the "Dutch" KLM L-749. I think the only 749 airworthy in the World. As I posted in another thread, unfortunately it hasn't flown since the same week that that video was filmed, back in the first week of July 2004. Th...

Re: Harvard D-FRCP - Restoration

John, thank you very much for the kind words! For the other repaint you're referring to, if G-TDJN, I don't have any links per-say, but you can find it at Sim-Outhouse, Flightsim.com, and Avsim, with the file name jt_t6_353rd_v2.zip (Mind you, I was wrong by stating in the description that it is bas...

Re: Virtual cockpit tour - 360 degree view

This one is rather quite interesting as it is an early T-6 "Mosquito" that actually served on the front lines in Korea from 1950-1952, as part of the 6147th Tactical Air Control Group - a true combat survivor. It was later "gifted" to the ROKAF, which operated it for a while and ...

Re: Dutch 749 Footage

It would be wonderful to see that one flying again. That video was filmed on July 2, 2004, and it was flown from Amsterdam to its home at the Lelystad airport that same day. Unfortunately the aircraft had an engine failure just a few days later on July 5, 2004 and it hasn't flown since, due to a num...

Re: Here is some information on the POF Connie. (LINK)

Yep, under full restoration now at Chino for owner Rod Lewis (Lewis Air Legends). It's quite amazing the resurgence that the Constellation is having as of this year - with as many as 4-5 Constellations undergoing maintenance/restoration here in the US alone, to all hopefully become regular flyers ag...

Re: It's a CONNIE !

Don't forget our very own precious L-749 N749NL, John. It hasn't flown since 2004, though, right? What I meant by my comment was that there have only been two Constellations flying regularly in recent years (i.e., past 2-5 years). I also didn't count (on purpose) the EC-121T N548GF, which was flown...

Re: It's a CONNIE !

I'm a very big Lockheed Vega fan, so to have my favorite four-engine propliner in the photo too, is just an added bonus (plus, I like that it's in color).

Re: It's a CONNIE !

The Lufthansa project is very impressive. Yes it has been - like watching the Red Bull DC-6 restoration, it is amazing to see such a large aircraft taken down to bare bones/basic structure/spars and completely rebuilt/put back together in better than new condition. The latest projection I've heard ...

Re: It's a CONNIE !

Lockheed was actually able to get their hands on a captured Zero for flight testing/engineering analysis, as I recall (somewhere, I have a great wartime color photo of said Zero with an olive drab USAAF C-69 (L-049) Constellation parked behind it). The claim that the Constellation could out-run a Ze...

Re: Very Lucky Find

Here are some work-in-progress shots of a repaint depicting the aircraft that is the subject of this thread. The only photos I have had to go by are those two that Martin posted (and who graciously passed-along to me some higher resolution versions of those shots). As Martin has stated, Fleet Air Ar...

Re: D-FRCP....Cessna or a Harvard?

Shouldn't the title be "G-BAFM...Cessna or a Harvard"? :D "G-BAFM" is one of the default Cessna 172 reg-numbers for all FSX-installs, and it must just be a unique coincidence/tie-in, as there currently aren't any aircraft operating with that registration, and the Harvard (D-FRCP)...

Re: Harvard D-FRCP - Restoration

This particular aircraft is a Noorduyn-built Harvard Mk.IIb, construction number 14A-868, and was one of 1,500 Noorduyn-produced Harvards that were accepted by the USAAF as AT-16's. With the USAAF, the aircraft was given the serial number 43-12569, but was re-directed to the Royal Canadian AF and gi...
