Re: Warbird adventures
What about KAVX do you find to be a challenge beyond the challenging sight picture of the approach? A 3000' runway shouldn't concern a Mustang, especially with the kind of uphill slope this one has to aide in deceleration.

Re: Which procedure would be preferred IRL...?
Assuming this question is geared towards flying light GA airplanes, I would say why are we even paying that much attention to the airspeed on base/base-to-final? If we are familiar with our machine at all, we should already be familiar with how the plane presents in a given situation as that. Feelin...

The 172 has a mind of its own, and you're not always to blame for the bad ones...or the good ones!

Re: Congrats to the new Flying Instructor - Capt. Jake - at just 18 !
Is it true you only need a driving license to get a Sports Flying licence ? So in the U.S, that's 15 ? Over here in the Land of Brexit, it's 17, so guessing you couldn't do a PPL until then. With Instrument rating and then instructor..... must have been at it, pretty hard. I could only have a Sport...

Re: IFR realism for the time period
The instrumentation in these planes is no more sophisticated than in the 1959 Cessna 172 which I fly imc whenever I want. If you turn off the gps, the instrumentation of most GA planes equipped for IFR flight is not much better than in these old propliners. In fact the radio altimeter in the 377 is ...

Re: P-51 belly landing vid
expected to be a routine engine out landing... I don't know when an engine-out landing in any single, apart from a motor glider, could be described as routine. I think the only real mistake here was not landing in a field after the it was clear the engine was not behaving properly as opposed to att...

Replicraft is a good source for blueprints for WWI-era fighters. Many people who have built full-scale replicas use their blueprints.

Re: The secret airplane in development
If not a jet-trainer, what else could be trimmed for 90 knots at 18k, with an instructor, in masks, that is new Accusim-tech, that is so secret? I'd figure any non-pressurized turbo, or perhaps a turboprop trainer, however, these would not justify for all the drama around unexpected opportunities a...

Re: A2A Development Update Dec 2017
Every new release by A2A that I can remember has been preceded by a precipitous barage of anxiety in the forums. The 'kid on Christmas' effect has never failed to accurately predict a fresh release, I hope this isn't the first exception. Also, to be fair, 7 years ago they announced and showed models...

Re: Secret mission
So if Scott landed in San Marcos, that is home to the CAF Central Texas Wing. He didn't land in San Marcos. He went to Austin. That was the whole point of my post - if he was going to visit San Marcos, he would have gone to San Marcos. He DID NOT . He went to Austin Bergstrom, where the Collings Fo...

Re: A2A Development Update Dec 2017
I wonder if the guys who were escorting bombers in P-38s and P-47s had any idea that the P-51 Mustang was on the way? If so, they were probably anticipating the Mustang the same way we're anticipating the next A2A machine. Oh man... I hope it's a B-25. Or a Cessna 185 or a 310. Seeya ATB Some did k...
