Thanks for posting these detailed pics Fed901. I wasn't aware of the extensive and elaborate airfield concealment efforts. I guess this would have been seen as worth while during the battle of Britain even after the Luftwaffe presumably became aware of them, particularly if there was some cloud cover. Maybe a good use of manpower if there was any slack time and with relatively few materials used. The fake hedges look as almost as good or better than quite a few of them in the game!

Hello and thank Boreas,

here is a site that talks about decoys sites:

https://www.blighty-at-war.net/decoy-ql-sites.html

The dark lines across the airfields are a basics form of camouflage, in which tar was poured on to the grass to create hedges or the outlines of building, added to deceive prying luftwaffe aircraft.

I don't know if it would be possible to add these decoys on airfields in bob2. I think it must be a lot of work.

A very nice website. I think there must be more than a few other similar locally based sites but that's the best I've seen. I've never looked at how to add and place new ground objects so it's not for me at the moment but I think it could be do-able as a mod copying the shapes straight from the photos. It could look very impressive and would add a new level of depth. If only such a project could be completed and then integrated into the campaign, but I guess there would be other priorities even then.

Well, don't know if we'll ever get a chance to make use of these, but I gobbled them up anyway.

...We were actually aware of some of this going on, though we didn't have access to good images like this, but
we elected not to do anything with it, as people were having a hard enough time locating the airfields uncamoulflaged.

But the detail of the layout and buildings is excellent, and we certainly could have made good use of that.

I have others that I will publish this weekend.

I was interested in knowing how the terrain was made but it's a lot of work.

I think the RAF airfields are well done in the game. A few less like Rochford. I publish the photograph this weekend.

Hi Fred901
Great photos! I'm looking to possibly use on of the RAF Biggin Hill images in a documentary we are making. Would you be interested? Could you get in touch with me?
Thank you
Giorgia

I had forgotten about this somehow. Most unusual and interesting photos. A pity the website mentioned is down. It had the only discussion I've seen about the anti-aircraft batteries above Newhaven harbour. As a child I spent holidays there and one of the concrete shelters served as a shed for our caravan. There were a at least three empty gunnery positions close by, one with a caravan situated within its walls. Anyway, hope Fred901 will stop by.
