I apologize for this suggestion not being a "document" because of three additional letters "ary"
It might have been circulated before on the board here (and yes, I am too lazy now to check I admit) but I recently found and watched the four part series Spitfire Ace.
http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid ... 0725368338#

Interesting concept where four current day guys get a chance to win a 9 hour battle of britain trainings program in an original 1944 dual seater spit (ML407) from Duxford (yes, the dual seat was post-war, '47 iirc)
This plotline was intertwined with interviews with veteran pilots the likes of Bob Doe
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bob_Doe

Some good archive footage, historic overview, young (VERY LUCKY) fellow flying a spit for 9 hours training, this channel 4 production was having me fire up BOB2 even more than usual.
Worth a look for atmosphere alone (and could one ever get bored by the roaring sound of a merlin flyby?)

In the last episode one of the veterans shared one of his survival tricks with the young Dave Mellon;
"I always flew with a bit of rudder trim on. The experienced 109 pilots would try their deflection shooting, but through the trim my aircraft was in a different spot in space when the bullets arrived. I saw a lot of tracer zipping by my cockpit".

I did not know this trick and thought it very cunning. Watch the scene (end part 4), his expression sharing this is definately worth a look.

Ejecto out

Hi ejecto!
This is a great documentary indeed. I even thought about creating Polish subtitles for it to allow more of my fellow men to watch it.

The Spitfire Site:
http://www.spitfiresite.com/

Lots of interesting source material, articles, picture galleries etc.
Well worth exploring, the Article section is particularly good and has a lot more related to the wider history of the BoB than specifically Spitfires.

Hi Buddye:

That link to your page in the second post above seems to be dead.

Time to update the link address?

Alas, ww2airfronts disappeared around the end of summer 2009, after being online for at least
five years, and I'm afraid Snip aka von Schnitter dropped from sight on the fora a while earlier
than that. He was a collector, and the site had scans of some of his personal acquisitions.
Had we had prior notice, I'm sure there would have been a lot of downloading and saving of
the material from his extensive site.
