Can the version from the store work on Windows 10?

Post by TheLoaf »

I have read the Windows 10 patch thread and it seems that you need to start from the CD version. However, my PC doesn't have a CD drive (nor I BoB2). I can get a digital version from A2A's webstore but I do not see instructions for getting that to work with Windows 10.

Can you use the patch to get this version to work on Windows 10?

Hi TheLoaf, if the A2A Store version is the digital version from original 2.0 release version it will work without any patch. You can run original 2.0 or 2.01 bob2 perfectly in Windows 8 / 8.1 / 10 without any patch. You just have to install "DirectX End-User Runtimes (June 2010)" and run the game in Win XP compatibility mode. Then you can optionally install Windows 10 Patch that will add 2.13 addons to 2.01 executable. Ask them which version are they selling and drop proudly your money chap! ;)

I do not know how to tell what version the game is. It is not listed on their webpage and they say to come to the store for support.

The A2A webstore version is 2.06, the last version that A2A staff was involved in building.
I don't know of a way of getting an earlier version outside of a cd.

Thanks PV for the info about A2A Store version. I made a fix for who wants to install BOB2 Windows 10 Patch over 2.06 Version

I added the download link in my BOB2 WINDOWS 10 PATCH (RELEASED) topic:

So I want to make sure how I would install it:

1. Install the A2A game
2. Install the Windows 10 fix from Moddb
3. Install the path that the above poster referenced to fix the Windows 10 patch?

Hi, there is a tutorial inside the fix file, but I will also post here the steps ;)

To make BOB2 Windows 10 Patch works over 2.06 version you will have to follow the exactly order.

1-Install your BOB2 2.06 Version

2-Install "BOB2 Patch 2.01" (It's included in Fix file)

(You need to install 2.01 Patch over your 2.06 version to restore old original registry)

3-Download and Install full "BOB2 Windows 10 Patch"

(At the end of the installation a window will open and ask you to Install DirectX End-User Runtimes (June 2010). Install it since it's needed for BOB2 works on Windows 8 / 8.1 / 10)

4-Install this fix "BOB2 Windows 10 Patch Fix for 2.06 version"

(To install this fix just paste all these 9 folders to your "Battle of Britain II" folder and replace all original files)

5-Run your game in Windows XP Compatibility Mode

Thanks. I think I might chance picking this up in the next few weeks. Il-2 and Wings Over the Reich had made me interested in BoB and this seems to be a decent sim which also includes a strategic element.
