Two questions

Post by Archive88 »

1. Does the 'no gun' model give a better "over-the-panel" view? All tail draggers have poor forward view on take off, but it would be nice to have a better view on landing. The plane is very unstable the last few feet of landing as it is...would be nice to have a better view of a failed landing!
2. There seems to be an enormous need for 'forward' stick in order to keep the nose down for level flight. I understand, no trim. But is there a solution?

Hello,

The 'no gun' model offers the same view from the cockpit. This licensed-built Albatros had built-in machine guns to improve pilot's view. The 'no-gun' represents the post-World War 1 model from the 20's.
Those WW1 planes had a high incidence wings and many of them were naturally tail-heavy and had to be flown with the stick forward. The Central Powers' fighters had a kind of stick-lock utility. It is here as well. That was a kind of small lever mounted on the stick which allowed the pilot to 'lock' it in the desired position. It worked like a primitive trim/autopilot. Just press the trim key on your joystick and the stick should lock. Press it again and the stick will work again.

Regards,
Lucas
