Hi Mantock,

Thank you for your very good tutorials presented in a very natural way. The more I watch them the more encouragment I get to try VATSIM.

In reference to your tutorial on navigation, part 2, you found that the bearings sugested by the chart did not match that of Plan-G. I have giving it a thought and believe that the chart refers to 'True North' and Plan-G automatically applies the deviation for 'Magnetic North', which for that area is 4 deg for 2014; so, I would add the 4 deg to the TLA bearings.

Let me know if this makes sense.

I think there are two possibly related explanations for the observed discrepancies:

1. TLA38 and TLA32 are named intersections, however I don't think the SID is actually directly referring to them by name.

2. If you are flying in FSX, Plan-G uses the FSX database. Since FSX came out in 2006, magnetic variation (declination) has changed, and VOR radials are based on magnetic north. On the other hand, I would guess the SID information from Aircharts.org labels VOR radials using current magnetic variation information, and thus the possible discrepancies. If interested, see the thread here http://forum.avsim.net/topic/336155-mag ... 9-and-fsx/ which shows how to update the FSX database for changes in magnetic variation.

A great series so far, I hope you continue and with it, it'd be nice to have a complete course from you for the sim flyer.

thanks,

Hey folks, sorry its taken me so long to produce the next part but here it is! This is incorporating the new rain effects that A2A pushed in a recent update, looking beautiful!

I plan to be more frequent as life settles down, just to recap I moved house to the Highlands of Scotland in the summer, so I'm just finishing the sixth month of being up here, so I've had a lot to deal with. But hope to be more regular with these going forward!
