Bendix King KX165 Radio

This is a my version of a Bendix King KX165. I wanted a see if I could make a radio and thought this would be much easier to make instead of the more complex KX155A in the C172. I also like the retro look.

I've used cheaper single encoders, four MAX7219 chips for the displays, designed the PCB and Faceplate, got 3D prints of knobs and button designs available free online and the artwork is just a design in Word printed on an adhesive page. The hardware is an Arduino Mega and Lua script. Reasonably cost effective.

The frequencies are tuned using the COMM and NAV selector knobs, push to toggle between tuning MHZ/KHZ.
This radio unit also has a Radial mode. By pushing and holding the NAV selector knob for 1/2 a second it changes to Radial mode. The NAV STBY display changes to show the radial you’re on from the Active frequency. A short push of the selector allows NAV Active tuning MHZ/KHZ. The STBY frequency is still able to be swapped to Active. Push and hold the NAV selector knob for another 1/2 to return to normal Active/Standby Frequency display mode

I will post my files and code when all in order, if any interest.

regards

--- Update -----

These are the files, PCBs, Faceplates and code used for construction. The Arduino and LUA code incorporates the ability to use a NAV1, NAV2 and a DME (with independent frequency tuning) modules all run on the same scripts and one Arduino Mega. As per the image:

Thank you so much for your time and efforts !
Any chance for an ADF or, let say, a KAP140 autopilot to complete your avionic panel ?

--- Update -----

I've added my attempt at a Transponder KT76C module. The functionality is based on the avionics manual posted in this forum.
I will clean up all my files, code etc and post for use by anyone who may like to build the same.

Hi, I'm interested in your equipment, is there a possibility that it will work with prepard 3d AND FSX and if the ADF equipment can do more?

--- Update for Transponder -----

These are the files, PCBs and Faceplates used for construction of the Transponder and includes the Arduino and Lua code files.
The Transponder functionality is based on the manual posted in this forum.
These work in FSX and I expect also P3D.

I'm looking to also create a KAP140. Only the Lvars for the buttons seem to be available so I'm trying to follow the logic of the button functionality.

Very impressive !
Could you be more specific on the way you proceed ?
Are you able to read A2A internal datas or are you creating a « parallel » KAP 140 with your own datas ?
Looking forward to seeing your finished job :D

Yes you are right. I have used the LVARS available to activate the button presses as per the C172 Builders Variable List. There is another "L:AutopilotAltAlerter" which can be read that shows the altitude displayed on the KAP140 unit and can be updated. I’m basing the functionality simply on the manual in the forum and testing in the sim.

I have used the following FSUIPC offsets for functionality which all seem to work 1:1 with the KAP140;
0x2AAC : NAV1_CDI, read to indicate when to display NAV mode is Active
0x2AB0 : NAV1_GSI, read to indicate when to display GS mode is Active
0x34B0 : Flight Level Pressure Altitude, read to compare against "L:AutopilotAltAlerter" to display or flash “ALERT”.
0x07F2 : Vertical Speed, read/write with the Autopilot display.
0x281C: Battery on/off keeps the sim in sync with the A2A LVAR “L:Battery1Switch"
0x2E80: Avionics on/off
