172 trainer Cabin Vent

Post by herbiem »

Hi team
This is my 1st post as I haven't had my 172 Trainer very long
I am in the process of configuring my home cockpit to the A2A 172 and I have some Macros working well
The problem I have is if the action at the end of the Macro is a =Set I cannot get a switch on my panel to work the event
The one I am working on at the moment is the cabin vent
This is what I have for the Macro 13=L:CabinVent=set
The Key that I have assigned in FSUIPC works the leaver but the switch does not
Any help would be appreciated
Ian

Hi Ian and welcome!

It looks like the cabin vent L:Var (see the L:Var control listing linked here under "center pedestal/lower main dash" for details) relates to a percentage, so probably easiest to use the INC and DEC commands with two separate buttons or keypresses. Alternatively, if you're using a control axis for this function, you could use the function which is available in the 172 input configurator which is available from the Windows start menu.

Because this L:Var references a percentage; for INC, the parameter value in FSUIPC should be 100, and for DEC it should be 0.

Thanks,
Nick

Thanks for your quick reply Nick
I have now managed to get it working all be it using 2 Key commands
Like this
Assign a key to open the vent and use the on press tab only
Assign a different key to close the vent and use the on release tab only
In FSUIPC For the Open Vent press I used the CabinVent=set Macro with a parameter of 100 when key is pressed and a parameter of 0 when key is released
For the Close Vent press I used the CabinVent=set Macro with a parameter of 0 when key is pressed and a parameter of 100 when key is released
This has it working
But I want to use a manual switch on my panel to do this has any one any suggestions
I for got to mention I am using this through Mobieflight

Hi Ian,

Using "SET" won't allow you to adjust the vent incrementally, instead it'll be fully open or fully closed. However using "INC" (increase) and "DEC" (decrease) should allow fine tuning.

Is it a two position hardware switch you'd prefer to use? If so, the same principal should apply: one position to move the vent towards open and the other towards closed. Here's an example in FSUIPC:

Hi Nick
I am only trying to get it to be either be in or out using a hardware switch. Out when I switch on and in when I switch off. I am not to concerned about it being incremental
I have tried your example but with no luck
This is what I have (sorry not sure how to insert an image)
My Macros are L:Cabinvent=Inc and L:Cabinvent=Dec
Have set a joystick button to Joy# 1 Btn# 14
Then I have under Control sent while button pressed - my file name L:Cabinvent Inc with a parameter of 100
Control sent when button released L:Cabinvent Dec with a parameter of 0
Once again thanks for your help it is great to get assistance like you have provided especially as I am an older person, sometimes learning new things come with a bit of a challenge, but have nearly finished my panel just adding a few extras now

Hi Ian,

You're welcome. Is a button you're using though, or a two position switch? If it's just a simple pushbutton, then setting the L:Var to 100 on press and to 0 on release won't achieve much unless you keep the button pressed in all the time you want to have the vent open, which probably isn't practical.

Cheers,
Nick

Thanks for that Nick
I am using a switch so all working now.
Am thinking of using a remote control ( like on a car) to open it now I have it working do you know if anyone has done this?
Ian

Good to hear it's working now Ian. The remote control is a new one on me, but I guess any device which you can get to send a HID type input to your PC should be usable for sending commands to the sim.

Cheers,

Nick deals with this as some of the intricacies of the advanced hardware is beyond me personally, but I would be extremely interested to hear about this remote control idea as it may well be a first for the A2A Forums, and a good bit of nerdy stuff is always welcome here

cheers,
