No. You can change aircraft paint schemes all day long and it does not affect the Accusim hours on the Hobbs meter.

My first Cherokee repaint, and actually the first repaint I've ever managed to finish. In this case a simple, fictional one representing my own personal aircraft. Now I can go touring !

Many many thanks to Bill Womack for his excellent tutorial, particularly regarding adjustment layers: :)

Great job Paul! And thanks for choosing our aircraft to be your first. Maybe not your last, and dare I say maybe an edited version could be released? I rather like the scheme, esp the tail 8)

cheers,
Lewis

Paul: That is one fine personal paint scheme. Hard to believe it is your first paint.

Thanks matey, and it certainly isn't my last. I have an idea for the Cessna 172 ! :) An edited version so that people can apply their own registrations, yes ? I suppose all I would have to do is erase the G-OPVK and the Red Ensign from the pilot's side of the cockpit, since they are relevant only to me ( well, the entire tail is Red Ensign based too, of course ), but in what format would I upload it ? Just the pa28_180_t.dds file, which could then form the base layer in a Photoshop psd ?

As for choosing the A2A Cherokee for my first, well, as with the entire A2A range, the superb model warrants the effort involved. Not only that, but the paintkit is logically set out and straightforward - my goodness, there are a few other publishers who could take some lessons from it. Mentioning no names of course...excuse me a moment...coughAerosoftcough.

Binarkansas, thank you very much for kind words. I followed the time-honoured learning process - try, get it wrong, try again, still get it wrong, try again, give up, shout at computer, try again, hurl mouse in corner - read manual.

Maybe apply a fake UK reg of your choosing and release the entire repaint? I'd certainly fly her around my FTX England 8)

Lewis, okay, it will be G-something...give me four letters that mean something to you..initials of names, or something like that. It'll be a few days before I can get back to it, because today I've been battling with text outlines. I really wanted the registration in red with a blue outline, and with the assistance of the good folk at CBFS, I've worked out how to do it in PSE 9. Once I've done a new version, I'll show that, and you can choose between the two styles. It'll be a few days though - back to work tomorrow.

EDIT: What about G-OLEW ?

Very nice first paint Paul. Possibly the fastest craft ever to sport the Red Duster, and definitely quicker than those bloody Windcats!

Decided to put my Photoshop skills to the test and give repainting a go, rather than waiting for some nice person to do it for me :)

Real one:

Mine:

Just got to work out which bit in the bitmap is the spinner and make it light blue!

Thanks Lewis, like many others with their personal favourite, Charlie Alpha is dear to my heart :)

Now I've seen the skin on the plane I've realised I need to thin up the dark blue lines on the wings...

Could somebody give some advice on

A) where in the psd the spinner is so I can colour it blue?
B) the textures look great from a distance but really close up they look scrappy and not as good as the A2A defaults (and others) - is there a better format for the files? I used DXT1....

Thanks

Edit - sorry forgot I was in the finished paints thread - will ask in the re painters thread ;)

You will want to use DXT5 or better + make sure mipmapping is not enabled for sharp textures.

Awesome - I was going to ask about mipmaps as well! I'll re-output the files later!

Hi Lewis,

I've made the finishing touches - where should I post it? Dropbox link here?
