Updating Cessna 182 to version 20.5.26.0

Post by bansai »

Hallo!

My first post - hope this hasnt been raised before!

Just purchased the 182 - super looking aircraft!

When updating to newest version (20.5.26.0) I get this anomaly during installation:-

I have access to the files and folders - have I done something wrong?

Appreciate any help!

Best regards

Tim

Hello Tim and welcome.

I suspect the issue in this case is caused by the Microsoft OneDrive client accessing the directory in question, which is preventing other programs from writing to it. If OneDrive is running, you could try simply closing it (right click the icon in the system tray, click the "help & settings" icon and then "close OneDrive") then repeat the update process. You can manually run the updater tool via the shortcut in the Windows start menu under "A2A Simulations".

If this doesn't work, your best bet may be to reinstall the 182 to a different directory outside of your OneDrive folder. In this case, after uninstalling, you'll need to launch P3D to allow it to rebuild its add-ons.cfg file before you reinstall to a different location.

Thanks,

Hallo Nick!

Many thanks for the quick reply!
Funnily enough, OneDrive wasnt running at all during installation - so I will take the next option and reinstall to a different location.

Will report back to.

Kind regards

Tim

Thanks for the update Tim and you're welcome. The odd issue with OneDrive is a bit unfortunate, but when Lockheed Martin originally chose their default auto-detect install path in "Documents", I don't think OneDrive synced Documents folders were even a thing.

Anyway, good to hear you're in business and hope you enjoy the 182.

All the best,

Nick,

This might help? Not sure if the issues reported with the files opnly being available on OneDrive are applicable or if there are other steps that can be taken.

I found that there is a "Backup" tab in the Onedrive settings dialog where one can un-select the Documents folder.

Thanks Oracle,

Although it's possible to tell OneDrive to not back up the Documents or Pictures folders, I don't think there's a way to get it to selectively ignore individual directories (such as "Prepar3D v5 Add-ons") inside these folders. For what it's worth, I do have OneDrive installed and running on my system but it doesn't sync my Documents folder where my add-ons are installed and I've never had a write access issue.

Anyway, I think I'll have to try syncing my Documents with OneDrive sometime and see if I can reproduce the issue Tim and a few other customers have encountered. However, I suspect there could be a combination of factors at work here causing the problem.

Cheers,
Nick
