primer only starts/draining fuel lines before shutdown

Post by Zacke »

Hey guys,

I have two questions concerning the fuel system of the Comanche:

1. Primer only starts are possible and solicited with the Comanche but are they actually performed for any reason? The procedures say to start with mixture full rich.
2. For some types it's recommended to close the fuel cocks, let the fuel pressure drop and shut it off at the first sign of fuel starvation for draining the fuel lines. I think that's for fire safety reasons. Does that make sense for the Comanche OR does it harm the engine?

Thanks in advance,
Zacke

Hi Zache,

I never start my Comanche with primer only, but you could do it this way without any issue. You can also shut down the plane by starving the fuel as well without any issue. The cool thing is this all works, by design, in Accu-Sim :)

Thanks Scott. I have done primer only starts in both the Comanche and Cherokee, but it seems to start more easily with mixture set at full rich which I figure is better for the engine.

Cheers,
Mike
