Comanche Input Configurator and P3d V5 Problem

Post by rozelc »

Good Day,

From the Bleeding Edge.

Since moving to p3d v5 I’m not able to move Carb Heat or Nav Inst Light Knob via the Comanche Input Configurator app in the sim.

The Preview column displays the pot position normally.

On the plus side the GTN 750 displays the map and TAWS tests out.

The path I have to the A2A Comanche is: C:\Users\xxxxx\Documents\Prepar3D v5 Add-ons\A2A\A2A\Comanche250\Tools \ Comanche Input Configurator

I’m Happy with v5.

Best Rozel

Hi Rozel,

The input configurator should still work with v5, but you may need to change the input method in the control setting in. Until proper installers are released, the aircraft can't read from the value actually selected in the Prepar3D.cfg, so will use the default state. The default hardware input API is now "direct input" in v5 whereas it was "raw input" in v4.

Thanks,

This still doesn't work even with proper v5 installers, to be honest its always been an issue since as far back as I can remember when I bought the 250 years ago, so that for me would be P3d 2, 4 and 5. I've tried RAW mode and DirectInput mode, it always writes the wrong joystick device number. The P3D configurator always updates the FSX version of the axis file and never the P3D version. I wouldn't mind but I've never had FSX installed on this machine.

Whats even worse with the v5 installer version is that manual editing of the axisConfig.cfg does not work now either, at least with the v4 installers I could fix this myself by entering the correct joystick number. I would go back to the v4 version but nose wheel steering never worked for me with that version in v5.

I've got 12 joystick devices connected to this PC, 3 of the are virtual devices though, I've tried turning off the other devices and that didn't help either, so I'm out of idea's. Using the FSUIPC elevator trim is too fast and is too course, so its impossible to trim the aircraft, you are either climbing or descending, so I need the configurator to work.
cheers,
Andy

Just an update, I got this working eventually. The issue is that your configurator is writing the completely wrong joystick numbers to the config file. I spent the last couple of hours testing each device and working out which was which. Your App lists one of my devices as joystick 5 and this number is correctly written to the config file, but when tested it should actually have been Joy 1. Another you list as Joy 12 and its actually joy 5. The final example is my Honeycomb Yoke, you say its Joy 4 when its actually 11. So your config app is not showing the correct joy numbers in the list.
cheers,
Andy

Andydigital- I too noticed the discrepancy concerning joystick numbers a couple oF years ago. I also have multiple “joysticks” or control devices attached. FSUIPC, P3D and input configurator were all using different “joystick” numbers for a single device. I worked around it by figuring out the correct joystick number, and editing the input configurators “configuration” file to reflect the correct number. (In my case, it’s a Cessna switch panel). That seemed to do the trick

The configurator is numbering the joysticks according to the rules from SDK and LM. However, we don't have a way to verify that from P3D itself and it seems to bug out in some unusual hardware configs. Rare, but annoying.

If all else fails, you can check the numbers assigned to controllers in your P3D settings window (checking the SHOW - Number option), and adjust the axisConfig.cfg file manually. The axisConfig file from P3D directory is used if you have P3D set to RawInput. Otherwise, the config from FSX directory is used, even in P3D.
