High Over the Rockies

Post by Bomber_12th »

Some shots flying around Eagle County, Colorado.

(It's not needed, but as I tend to do with all bare metal schemes, I snuck-in my favorite Bob Rivera envmap.)

Very nice. What's a "Bob Rivera envmap"?

Bob made a set of Env maps to replace the FSX defaults.. one of which works really well with metal finishes as you can see by Bomber12th's screenshots. They're available in the library at SimOutHouse;)

Search Avsim for alternate_globalenvtest.zip (by Robert Rivera)

Within it are a couple alternative environmental maps - environmental maps are used to control what reflections look like in the sim, through the use of alpha channels.

I have used his modified GlobalEnv_AC_Chrome.dds texture in-place of the Env.dds and Env_g.dds textures in the P-51H main Texture folder (which all of the paint schemes use). Of course if you are to do this, backup the original Env.dds and Env_g.dds textures first, as I have - in-case I have a change of mind. I tend to do this with most aircraft with bare metal schemes, as I really like the effect that this particular environmental map/texture achieves - it looks particularly nice/realistic with a partly cloudy sky.

Very nice screen shots Bomber_12th, I like them very much. I haven't got the plane yet: but I'm working on it! Change the previous sentence, I'm now the proud owner of this wonderful old warbird!
