"Attempt to call a nil value"

Post by aeugli »

Hallo gents,
after a longer period of flying other (mostly A2A-) aircrafts, I went back to the T6.
So I load as ever the standard flight with the default FSX-Cessna, all functioning ok (Track IR, different views, zoom, u. a. weather input from AS16 & a moving map both from a client computer).
Then when I change and load a T6 variant (no matter which variant) I get immediately a frozen FSX- screen, once with an error message "Attempt to call a nil value" (Tried to load the yellow T6 variant).
I can see the the engine cowling of the T6 in front of me, slightly bigger / "nearer" (and maybe a little bit more coarse) as normally.
Track IR is froozen too, no change of view via keyboard or buttons or anything else possible - all is froozen.
When I click into the screen/froozen picture I get a whiteout.
I have to kill the program via WIN task manager.
With all other aircrafts and A2A aircrafts I have tested I have no problems, also with the default flight loaded FSX Cessna 172.

Latest accusim-update 05-11-20 for FSX installed long ago.
System WIN7/64, FSX acceleration, no system changes since a few month (system & flight sim).
No problems for quite some months with flying other aircrafts.

Every help would be much appreciated!
Best wishes Rainer

Hi Rainer,

Sounds like a lot going on. While you’re waiting for the experts to spot your post, you could try creating and saving a new default flight with a default aircraft, load your new default flight after you restart FSX and then try loading the T6 again just to exclude that as a source of your troubles.

Hi Rainer

Did you try this regarding simconnect?: https://www.a2asimulations.com/forum/vi ... 30&t=52226

Hello Tomas,
thanks to chime in.
I think simconnect could hardly be the culprit cause all my other A2A a/c which also rely on simconnect are working properly.
When simconnect is failing and have to had restarted, I get every time an annotation in the sim. But not here.
I may be wrong with my assumption, but...
I quote from where you point me with the link:
"You can test if simconnect is working by opening up the default Cessna 172 and check to see if you have gauges. If you do not have gauges, then SimConnect is probably not working."
I HAVE gauges in the default Cessna 172.
Thanks for your advise and Kind Regards
Rainer

Hi Rainier,

Just in case something has become corrupted in the log.dat files for your T-6, please can you try making a back of of the "Documents\A2A\FSX\T6" folder and then manually deleting the whole folder.

When you next launch FSX, it should rebuild the log.dat file.

If this doesn't help, please can you try running the latest Accu-Sim update again.

Thanks,
Nick

Hello Nick,

thanks for your suggetions.
I tried the first one (Delete the T6 folder in Documents/A2A/FSX /T6 after backup)
but without success - problem persists.
When I looked into the respective T6 folder, NO new log.dat file was rebuilt (T6 folder was empty!)
I wait for your opinion about this before I rerunning the latest Accu-Sim update.
Thanks Nick and
Best wishes
Rainer

Okay, thanks Rainer,

That suggests the Accu-Sim module isn't writing to the log.dat file. There can be various reasons for this: for example, third-party software such as antivirus software on file syncing software like Microsoft OneDrive client restricting write permissions.

Although only the T-6 seems to be affected in your case, I still recommend you start by rerunning the Accu-Sim update as this should ensure the most recent versions of the core files are present.

If this doesn't solve the problem, please can you just confirm if your T-6 installation is modified in any way?

Hi Nick,
after rerunning the latest FSX Accu-Sim core update - success/problem solved.
Tested with two variants T-6 "yellow" & T-6 N36913.
In the Documents/.../N6 folder 3 files: T6log.dat.f; V2_T6log.dat & V2_T6log.dat.bak1.
As far as I can tell, all is working as it should be. Nice!

Nick, thank you very much for your kind & successful help,
and again Jacques & Tomas, I credit your assistance!
With best wishes
Rainer

BTW no antivirus software in the way & I never ever modified an A2A aircraft due to the Accu-Sim technology.

Hi Rainer,

You're very welcome - thanks for posting back with the update and good to hear the issue is resolved. Not too sure what the culprit was, but maybe a file in the installation became corrupted or was overwritten at some point.

All the best,
Nick
