A2A Please put a GTN 750 in the Connie

Post by Warbirds »

With great disappointment I saw that only the GTN 650 was supported in the Connie. Most of us have the GTN 750 and to buy the GTN 650 just for the Connie adds another 60 bucks to the equation and that brings the Connie to well over 100 bucks and way out of my budget.

Here's the problem though - where do you put the GTN750 with the panel? There isn't room for it without major modifications to the panel. All the GPS's available on the Connie are small units that fit into a glareshield addon above the main line of the panel, allowing it to be added or removed without affecting any other systems and gauges. The 750 would likely require removal/modification of the engine gauges and autopilot, requiring an all new panel model to be included in each Virtual Cockpit.

Guys, please understand that this decision didn't get made lightly. There's not a single Connie currently flying with a large GPS. The real ones have KLN90s, GTN 650s, or similar "single slot" GPS. If they have more modern radios, they're installed on the center pedestal in place of the older heads, so that's not a major modification. Putting a large screen GPS/MFD in is.

Exactly, the GTN 750 can still be added as a pop up window using Flight1's own config tool. It could still be integrated this way if necessary and used for route guidance.

I just had a meeting with Rob and he explained a bit more to me why we can't fit the 750 in here. Capflyer is correct about just the size being very difficult, but additionally Rob explained it's because we're pushing right up against some limits in the model. We will not take this off the plate completely and are happy to revisit this down the road if something changes, but, having it as a 2d popop IMO is far from bad and in many ways preferable. This is how I fly with the 430 in the sim - as a 2d popup even though it's in 3d as well.

Would it be possible to mount it on the A pillar or something? Woefully unrealistic but may be a good compromise. Personally if I were to get the connie, I'd fly it historically, but that's just me :D

I say what about in the navigators console? It can be brought up to a 2d window for the pilot, there should be enough room and realistically back then the navigator would have been the one plotting the course and what not.

I propose that the 750 be attached to a firm, flat surface and lowered into the line of site of the Connie pilot, whenever required, by the specially trained crew of a Stratocruiser flying just above and in front of said Connie. :D ( please dôn't hit me too hard )

I don't see the problem with putting the 750 where the current COM and NAV radios are on the center console. Seems that would be a perfect spot and you can loose the extra radios since the 750 has dual com and nav. This could allow you to keep the 650 for dual GPS or remove for better vis over panel.

Hi Scott, what 430 GPS can fit properly as the default did? And also where can I get it?

I think GPS 430 can be more realistic than 750 or 650 with Connie.

I purchased the RXP GTN 650/750 combo deal on December 31, 2019. It took me a while, but now I've got all my GPS capable A2A aircraft set up with their appropriate GTN. I have the 650 in the T-6, Civ Mustang, and the Connie. The 750 in the Comanche and the Cessna 182. The Bonanza has both, with the 750 on top. My MJ C-47 has the GTN 750 in the pop-up Shift+6 2D window. I am perfectly satisfied with things as they stand right now. Last evening I completed a long (for me) flight in the Connie, and after a descent from FL 200 to 1,400 MSL my GTN 650 took us to through the OTNIB transition to the RNAV 07 approach at Churchill (CYYQ). It was great when the autopilot intercepted the glideslope.

I can understand somebody wanting a GTN 750 instead of a 650. It would be nice if somebody could figure out how to get the 2D GTN 750 to work in the Connie, then give all the rest of us a cookbook set of instructions on how to do that. Like I said, I have the 2D GTN 750 working in the MJ C-47, but I'm not gonna mess with the setup in my Connie.

So somebody, please, give it a try, and then tell us how you did it.

Thank you
ATB

I just purchased from Flight One the GNS 430-530 and expected to see the new 430 in both Connie FSX and P3Dv4.5 but I realized the GNS430 will not work with Connie FSX even the software was written for both sim. On the another hand I also just found the A2A L-049 Connie installed FSX and P3D Aircraft Configurators but they shows different GPS options to select. P3Dv4.5 has the option Flight1 GNS430 and GTN650, the FSX has the option Flight1 GTN650 not the 430. Can I add GNS430 to Connie FSX manually? I may have to purchase the 650 and spent GPS twice just like the same experience of the Pilot Warbirds.
