No pay raise today but an interesting flight. Departure was the worst. We departed Sao Tome Intl (FPST) for Ascension Island (FHAW). Weather was heavy thunder storms with severe wind shear. While loading passenger the winds changed from 140 @ 39 to 243 @ 39. Then as I taxied to active (29) the winds dropped to 04knts. Phew, that will make takeoff a bit easier. It only took 10-15 minutes got out of the worst of it and to smooth air but oh my gosh was it rough.

As we got to cruise altitude (FL235) I heard a loud boom and some clattering. I panicked of coarse and did a quick scan of gauges, all ok it seems. I went to the windows and checked if I still had four engines, yup. Everything was "looking" ok but what was that noise? I checked everything again and was getting ready to do a cabin walk-through when Betty comes in and apologizes for the noise and the mess. It seems the galley storage compartments were shook up pretty badly from the rough weather and were a real mess. Most of the plates & utensils fell out onto the floor when opened getting breakfast ready. [Well, that's the only explanation I could come up with for the horrible noise]

Scott, did you actually program that into the sim? Very nice indeed! :P

Cheers
Roger

PS: You might notice new engines on my aircraft. This is my second set. I only got 389 hours out of the engines this time  . That was a disappointment. See what I can do on this next go-a-round.

It's been 99 hours sense my last pay raise and I was expecting one today. Hopefully on the next flight. That new Corvette is not going to pay for itself.

I knew a pay raise was eminent. I had 104+- hours sense my last.

Today I departed Guararapes - Gilberto Freyre (SBRF) headed for Congonhas Intl (SBSP). However, during the flight a nasty weather system moved into SBSP as we were passing 40 NM north of Rio De Janeiro so it was looking like a divert is in our future, but to where? We took a pole of the passengers and it was unanimous, we go to Rio.

It was a little bumpy on final but the landing was great and the passengers and crew were excited to be in Rio.

Cheers
Roger

Been following your log stats all along. Coming up on 10 million passenger miles is incredible.

SBSP is one of my favorite South American stops.

Thank you Sir,
It has been a very enjoyable and satisfactory ride. I will need to make another attempt for SBSP as I have not landed there yet.

Flew into Brazil last evening from Africa, knocking off another round the world flight in the L049. Left Fortaleza (SBFZ), Brazil earlier today heading back up to Florida, stopping this evening at Crown Point (TTCP), Tobago.

8 hours and 30 minutes :D
It's been a long time sense I had a flight that long. I've actually been itching to do one. I just came across the Atlantic myself but I made a stop on Ascension Island.

My normal RTW route has some great long hauls for the Connie. The route shown in red on the map below is the basic route I use for each RTW. Sometimes flown east to west, and sometimes west to east. Depends on the mood. :)
The yellow routes in and out of Florida also just depend...

Non-stop long hauls logged during this current "backwards" RTW trip:
SKSP>SCEL 13.1hrs
SCEL>SCIP 9.6hrs
SCIP>NTAA 12.1hrs
NCRG>NZDN 11.3hrs
NZDN>YCIN 13.8hrs
WADD>VQPR 11.8hrs

I have always tracked my flights in Google Earth. I have made an attempt to hit each country if only the capital. I shoot for 3-5 hour flights so many times I look to hit certain countries on my next time through the area. I've attached my kmz if interested. My Connie was picked up at Burbank, CA and I'm currently in Buenos Aires and working towards crossing the South Pacific. I do have some long flights in my future.

The "World Capitals" adventure is a great one to fly in either Connie or the 377. I used the 377, when I flew that a while back.

Yesterdays flight took me from Queenstown, New Zealand to Launceston, Australia on Tasmania and marks my 300th career flight. That's it, nothing huge, just thought it was worth sharing.

To all who have served in the armed forces, I thank you for your service and remember on this Memorial Day weekend. Have a great weekend all.

Cheers
Roger

300 hours, and your well past the 10,000,000 Passenger Miles. Hats off to you for both of those great stats.

Just landed this one a few hours ago. Non-stop from KJAX to SEQM. Nothing notable except that this is the first full L049 flight I've made since the P3Dv4.5 upgrade.

Really was no excuse for the crappy landing, other than it was an airport I've never landed at before, and I was too pre-occupied with looking out at the sights. :D

I have not had any issues with 4.5 yet. This made me a happy flyer of course.
Landings are always a stressful time for me. I have messed up landings on beautiful days when winds are perfect and then stuck the perfect landing when winds are variable, gusty and downright terrible. You just never know what the outcome will be until you get that nose-gear down and reduce speed.
I'm heading to Darwin, AU from Cairn, AU now. It's about time to start downhill so better get back to it.

Cheers

This install of 4.5 might be my favorite version of P3D so far. Everything is good to go so far.

Currently working my way through getting all my scenery back in. Just finished getting South America back up and double checked.
Left Buenos Aires (SAEZ) 2 hours ago, on a non-stopper back north to Crown Point (TTCP). Bucking a head wind, the GPS is showing only a little over 12 hours out from landing.

Unfortunately, "Endurance" on the Nav Notes is showing that will leave me with about 15 minutes of fuel. This will be a squeaker. :)

Making it to TTCP wasn't an issue with the head winds dying out later in the flight. Extended the flight plan for a landing at TNCM. Was going to try for TIST, but with a FL at 13,500', I couldn't stretch the decent out far enough.

Had to take over fuel management from the FE during the later part of the decent. I would have probably lost #1 and #4 sometime during the landing, but estimated there was enough fuel in #2 & #3 to keep all four running. Opened up the cross-feed levers shortly before picking up the downwind leg, to avoid that drama. Still a close one.
