Still bummed about the metal

Post by MD-82 »

Hello,

I wished more information could be given as to the fate of metallics in v5. Me and a friend are both flying the Connie these days. Both in v5. I have an NVIDIA GPU, he has an AMD GPU. We both have the same settings, I even reinstalled my v5 to make sure all my shaders were stock.

This is how his L049 looks in v5. More or less exactly as mine did in 4.5.

This is the best I can do with the same lighting conditions and all dynamic reflections OFF.

To me it seems that with the NVIDIA, the only place where the reflection is proper, is where the body is directly 90 degree to the horizon. In other words you can see sky blue, and make out cloud reflections and the horizon, but as soon as the metal bends off to an angle, it becomes grey. Whereas my friends' AMD GPU correctly renders sky blue and clouds bouncing off at nearly all angles of the body.
Anyone care to share any knowledge on this if they have any?

Cheers ...

What happens when you turn relfections ON?

Also for v5 as a platform its evolving so I would just bare that in mind.

Hi Lewis,

thanks for taking the time. With reflections ON, it gets worse. The metal becomes more of a dark grey. At first I though maybe it's because this particular download is already quite old. But I believe the paint kit is the same, as the TWA repaint that came with the v5 installer is also just as bland unfortunately. I just wanted to be sure I'm not the only one seeing this difference.

Cheers ...

I do see it slightly different that you on my 2080, are your drivers all up to date and which GPU are you using?

Also which version of v5 as Lockheed have been making changes each update now and coming in this area so I wouldn't spend too much time looking into this just yet.

thanks,
Lewis

Yes, I'm on the latest v5 and graphics drivers. I run a 1080.
Do you know if an update is in the works for the Connie's paint kit that takes into account the revised albedo files and metallic representation of P3D v5?

The bad reflections plus the bad water in v5 makes that picture an eyesore! Hopefully with v5.1 on the horizon we get a lot of fixes for our problems.

Sorry, no I think you mis-understood my post. I mean the v5 platform itself is in a state of change.

Hello,

just wanted to give this post a small update. I just finished updating to P3D v5.1HF. I decided to turn on HDR and EA. Then I thought why not turn on Dynamic Reflections for shits and giggles.
Initially my Connie turned to the familiar charcoal grey luster, however after about 4 seconds .....

Needless to say I almost fell of my chair. Extremely happy to at least she has been polished. Now on to test performance...

Cheers,

Xander

Looks good. I did a 300NM flight in the Connie a couple nights ago on the latest v5 version and it runs and looks amazing!
