what is every one using for cruise settings

Post by awash2002 »

I would like to know what everyone is using for 75% cruise power settings in the Bonanza with either the IO-520 or the IO-550 at say 8000 to 12000 feet?

Full throttle, 2200 rpm, lean for power.

I only use the IO-550. and I usually go high (10,000 - 12,000ft) in the Bonanza so I’ll do 2500 or 2300rpm, full throttle and lean for best economy.

That works best for me.

Airspeed just below the yellow. MAP 24. RPM Green to support my MAP setting and mix lean but enough to keep RPM steady.
Not technical but it works and doesn't foul plugs.

Pretty sure that CSB 09-11A applies to our IO-550's, and I've been adhering to it in my SOP's for the past 230 hours in simulation out of prudent caution and been getting respectable performance sans issues.

Otherwise, it's lean for best power or best economy for the given situation.

TL;DR on the CSB - no lower than 2,300 RPM continuous cruise.

I've been using 2500rpm for the most part but I'm really liking 2400 rpm for cruise

At 12.000, full throttle, more or less 20 inches, and 2100 RPM.
I fine tune HCT with mixture, trying to stay below 160°C.
