P3D V4.4 odd sound issue when switching to external view

Post by robains »

I know some changes were made to sound processing in P3D V4.4 and it might have impacted the Bonanza. As soon as I switch to external view, engine RPM seems to increase (at least the sound portraits that even though actual RPM doesn't change) and then settles back down to "normal" RPM sound.

Thoughts?

Cheers, Rob.

I'm not sure if we can rule out any specific sound-related changes related to v4.4 at this stage guys, though I haven't noticed any.

However, because the internal engine sounds are generated by Accu-Sim code running outside of P3D and the external sounds aren't, there's the chance that the internal and external sounds may occasionally get out of sync, usually only briefly.

With future Accu-Sim releases, there's a chance that the custom code could be extended to cover the external sound effects too, which should prevent this glitch.

Thanks,
Nick

Yes, or put sound default format to 24bits

I've noticed the same effect with other, non-A2A, aircraft. Just Flight's new Vulcan, Aerosoft's Catalina and Flight Replica's Halifax all do the same thing. A slight tap on the throttle usually sorts it out. :)

Thanks for the responses, I was aware of the time_constant=0 ... but thought I tried that and unfortunately the issue remains. It's not a big deal, just curious ... yes the default F22 also has the problem and was brought to LM's attention which is I think where time_constant was a resultant fix ... but doesn't seem to be working for me.

LM did add new PDK Sound Services in V4.4 but I don't think they would "interfere" with existing products and to use them means V4.4 code path as it wouldn't work in FSX but does give the developers a new way to provide sound without having to "do their own". It's pretty powerful, more than just playing a sound file:

Maybe future projects?

I'll report that I have it also and it sorts itself out after a few seconds .... I can live with it.

Windows 7, P3Dv4.4 ( Client & Content upgrades only) and a bunch of other add-on products.

It really affects my ButtKicker! It comes and goes, sometimes activates on cockpit interior, other times only on exterior views. (I’ll go out on a limb and say the ButtKicker is more “sensitive” to sounds we can’t hear).

I also first noticed this in P3D 4.3

Setting the config parameter and 24 bit made very little difference, if any at all.

Just sayin...

Yes, best you can do is post on P3D support to request a fix for the bug/issue.

thanks,
