DME Audio IDENT Doesn't switch
DME Audio IDENT Doesn't switch
Regardless of which NAV radio DME information is displayed, the audio (morse code) ident is the NAV1 IDENT. Shouldn't it switch to the NAV2 IDENT when I switch the display to indicate distances from/to Nav2 VOR?
Re: DME Audio IDENT Doesn't switch
Hello dsand2618,
No, the station ID audio is independent of the DME display and is controlled by the push buttons at the top of the radio stack. That is where you select between NAV1 & NAV2 audio and you can look at NAV1 DME info while you listen to NAV2 audio and vice versa.
Cheers,
Rob

Re: DME Audio IDENT Doesn't switch
But if I push the DME button (not the NAV1 or NAV2 button) shouldn't I hear the audio IDENT for the radio that the DME display is switched to?
Re: DME Audio IDENT Doesn't switch
As I said below, "No"...
The DME selector switch is for the LED display only...audio for ident purposes is selected by the NAV1/2 switches.

Re: DME Audio IDENT Doesn't switch
Then what is the purpose of the DME push button?
Re: DME Audio IDENT Doesn't switch
Aaaahhhh...well I stand corrected and I now know what you were asking...apologies!
I've never used the DME push button in the radio audio section. I never even noticed that it was there actually and I'm not sure why it's needed in addition to the VOR 1/2 switches. However, I'm now guessing that you're probably right and since it is there, should likely change the audio source to the active DME with the DME 1/2 info selector switch, however I am now at the limit of my knowledge here, so hopefully someone will chime in to confirm whether this is a bug or just the way it is....
Regardless, enjoy your Bonanza!!
Cheers,
Rob

Re: DME Audio IDENT Doesn't switch
If I recall correctly the purpose of the DME button is to play the DME channel. Not sure if these sims model this. If DME is not pressed you will not hear the DME pulses

Re: DME Audio IDENT Doesn't switch
The DME ident audio will be audible with either the NAV 1 or 2 button (assuming both are active, of course) or the DME button pushed, but if the DME info selector is set for NAV 1, that will be the audio you hear regardless of the selector position. With the DME button in the radio stack pushed, switching the selector itself to NAV 2 does not change the audio ID from NAV 1 to NAV 2. Pushing either the NAV 1 or NAV 2 switches allows the confirmation of both NAV 1 and NAV 2 idents.
The question is, "With neither of the NAV audio buttons pushed and only the DME audio button activated, should the audio ID change from NAV 1 to NAV 2 within the DME audio system, when the DME info selector on the panel is changed from NAV 1 to NAV 2?" It does not...is that a bug or not?

Haha well now I'm curious too, so hopefully someone will be along with the answer to the question...

If you don't wish you read the entire article, jump to the section named DME Ident. I recommend reading the whole article.

Interesting article but it doesn't answer the question at hand.

Yes good article for sure and it definitely does not answer the question...oh well..........Oracle427 wrote: ↑20 Dec 2020, 12:47 https://www.avweb.com/avionics/dme-basics/

Re: DME Audio IDENT Doesn't switch
I thought it answered it very clearly. What is the question in that case?
I thought the question was what does the DME button do?

Re: DME Audio IDENT Doesn't switch
The question was phrased pretty well by Rob. The behavior of the simulation seems wrong. The interaction of the DME push button on the radio stack audio panel and the DME display/switch is not logical, and therefore probably does not reflect the real equipment behavior. Looks very much like a requirement deficiency or implementation error during coding. Would like someone familiar with the real equipment or the software development to have a look.
