Close: it's actually a homing device that gets strapped to a coconut and transmits via satellite.

Probably way off the bat but it reminds me of one of those Russian directional-warning indicators that would alert to different signals that locked on to the aircraft and used a different light for air-to-air, SAM etc with another light indicating its direction relative to the aircraft...

It is in fact the SPO-15 beryoza and, no, I won't be building a simpit. I realized I had an empty space on my shelf and 2 weeks of spare time so I built it :D Good job Nick and Dark eagle. Lewis was rather close, and Killratio, your posts made me fall of my chair :D
