Following the engine fire in early May, the BBMF has reported that the plan/hope is to have it flying again by late August/early September.

Great video. Along with the Vulcan ( by her howl ) the Lancaster is the only other aircraft I could identify just by listening. That sound is unique.

Very nice video of two of the best examples of British WWII airplanes.

Keep the shiny side up and the dirty side down!

Very nice video (and a very nice landing as you'd expect) - certainly not as low as the Turkish F-16 that was filmed from the same vantage point a year or so ago...

I don't know Paul - I reckon you couldn't fail to identify a Wokka by the noise it makes...

Yup a classic scene and esp for special for me as HW-R "Phantom of the Ruhr" was a 100Sqn aircraft so that image of her coming home was on that was repeated over and over as she came home to my old hometown of Grimsby where 100sqn where based during the war.

thanks,

It surprises me at times, why people stand so close to the runway? I know that the road runs straight past the approach at Waddington, but I would have thought for their own safety that on busy days as say the Airshow that area would be cordoned off. I've been in there myself and was quite shocked to see how close we were to people when on finals. Next time, will try and smile more for their cameras!

They cant fully corden it off as its a main road out of Lincoln going south. The road has warnings and signals like a train crossing though which use to go off each time a Sentry came in.

Lewis - do you have a copy of the 100Sqn history? It was locally published a few years back and I picked it up in the bookshop in Freshney Place. My mother's side of the family is from Waltham so I've always felt a connection there :D (My grandfather, her father, served in the RAF, but as an ambulance driver in India and Burma during the war).

Cheers,

Byron

I have Ian Reid's 'Lancaster Operations' which chronicles RAF Grimsby and 100Sqn's stay there, and also mentions some of the other units like the Fleet air arm detachment and 142Sqn who where there with Wellingtons prior to 100 being reformed with Lancasters at the base. My mother got me my copy just as it was published as she knew Ian. I do remember seeing it in the Waterstones or some similar store years back in Freshney place though.

Hey Lewis- you may have seen on FB that the Canadian Lancaster Vera became (on her left side, at least) X-Terminator VR-X for the museum's Lancaster Day this past weekend. They've just announced they are going to keep those markings on her while at Oshkosh, so you will get to see a "different" Lancaster! Jealous indeed, enjoy!

Oh I didn't know they where keeping them on for Oshkosh, But I am getting to know the painting guy quiet well after seeing images of him on facebook so regularly repainting the nose art hehe. Its great that the Canadians do this to honour the Lancasters.
