Collings Foundation Wings of Freedom Tour - Worcester, MA 2019

Post by richbonneau »

Some photos from the Collings Foundation WIngs of Freedom Tour taken at KORH on September 26. Several of Collings' rare aircraft are kept at Worcester and they're brought out into the sunlight for this stop. In addition to the B-17, B-24, TF-51, and B-25, the newly restored TP-40, P-38 and F6F-3 Hellcat, plus the mighty AD-5 Skyradier, Spitfire, and the Pearl Harbor survivor P-40B, were on display, making this event a must-do for New England warbird fans.

Great stuff, thanks for posting! I look forward to hopefully seeing the P-38 and Hellcat! I got to see the P-40 this year and got a wonderful startup and taxi video but my phone didn't save it. I was so disappointed.

I was in such disbelief I had to read the thread title several times to comprehend it. The B-17 isn't an aircraft I'd ever expect this to happen, and (not to slight other operators), definitely not from the Collings Foundation. The latest update confirms seven fatalities. Such a sad day.

This is from VASAviation channel on YouTube. The sadness in the controller's voices and the reactions of the pilots on freq are heart breaking. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dU2XXGI_Ke0&t=25s

I'm guilty of taking these treasures for granted. When I visited KORH two weeks ago, I must say that I took Nine-O-Nine for granted. I was starstruck by the TP-40, Spitfire, P-38, and Hellcat. After all, I'd seen Nine-O-Nine for more than 30 years......

My heart aches for the crew and passengers and the entire Collings Foundation family.

Lovely shots and I really like the presentation on that site haha. Man that Hellcat, I bloody love a Hellcat. Such a Pacific workhorse sadly often overshadowed by the Corsair, though in my eyes the Hellcat is a better looker

cheers,
