Hifi AS16: What kind of weather data sources is used?

Post by Zacke »

Hey guys,

I wonder what kind of weather data sources are used with Hifi's Active Sky 2016.
So far I thought only METARs, winds aloft and SIGMET/AIRMETS are used to create the weather synthesis. But recently I discovered (several times) that there were thunderstorms present in the sim (FSX:SE) more or less exactly where real life detectors measured lightning strikes. There were no METARS or SIGMETs in the area with thunderstorm related messages. And I can't imagine the physical model of AS16 could forecast thunderstorm in a such reliable way (the RL forecast models also can't do it  ).

Any idea what data sources are used exactly or how AS16 does get that thunderstorms from? By the way: I have opted out to get thunderstorms with CB occurance (AS16 options).

Thanks in advance,
Zacke
