Poor Rudder Control…

Post by DocLotus »

Hi All;

I have a question about how to get more realistic rudder control out of FSX.

I have not been very happy with the rudder control on any version of Flight Simulator going all the way back to FS95 through FSX.

I was using CH rudder pedals but am now using CH Pro Pedals. Both are very smooth (mechanically) but do not provide anywhere near prototypical response in FSX. I have had some limited success using CH Control Manager to set a sharp slope and only 20% sensitivity with 2% dead zone. This has helped a lot but I find it still much too sensitive when setting FSX’s Realism to “Hard” as recommended for most A2A aircraft.

Sooooo…. my questions are…
1. What software have you had good success with?
2. What have you found to be the best settings both in the software and in FSX?
3. Which rudder pedals do you prefer?

What do you think of the Saitek rudder pedals?
1. Does the “drag” knob provide variable resistance to pedal pressure?
2. Do they have a built-in curve or do they need external software like the CH to tone down the wild left-right motions while on the runway?

Are there any other rudder pedals that are more realistic than either the CH or Saitek?

This has been bugging me for several years and it is about time I addressed this shortcoming in Flight Simulator.

As the A2A P-51 Mustang is likely the most realistic and hard to control at slow speeds (and on the ground) aircraft), I thought this would be the best Forum to discuss this problem.

Thanks;
Doc

Ah, a response!!

Thanks Norforce.

About those Saiterk rudder pedals...
1. Does the “drag” knob provide variable resistance to pedal pressure or just an overall drag?
2. Do they have a built-in curve or do they need external software like the CH to tone down the wild left-right motions while on the runway?

Thanks;

Yes the “drag” knob provide variable resistance to pedal pressure

They come with their own software but I didn't install it as its working fine through windows and FSX

I have got used to the peddles I don't push hard from L - R so I don't get the wild left-right motions while on the runway

They sound great. Do you think they are better than the CH Pros?

I see that Saitek now has a second rudder pedal out called "Combat Rudder Pedals" but I can find nothing about what is different other than the look and lack of a movable heel peice.

http://www.saitek.com/uk/prod/compedals.html

Have you heard or seen any reviews on them?
