Collings Foundation: Flyby in review and respect

Post by Masterius »

I'm sure most, if not all, of us, have heard of the Collings Foundation B-17 crash today (October 2nd). I would like to get together with all of my fellow Flying Fortress pilots on Saturday, November 2nd, to do a virtual flyby of Bradley International Airport at 9:50AM EDT, to pay our respects.

Al "Chevalier" Hess

Edit/Update: Changed date from October 12th to November 2nd to give more time for pilots to schedule for this. It will also give a true "one month" anniversary.

I would be interested in joining, however, that is right when I have family coming into town. I hope it goes well.

I'd love to join but as a P3D user I don't have the 17 anymore unless you wouldn't mind a mustang

Little friends escorted us in and out of enemy territory. I would think having a little friend, or friends, fly formation escort would be just as welcome. :)

I've changed the date to November 2nd, to give pilots more time to make arrangements to be there, as well as making that a "one month" anniversary.

I would be interested, however I've never flown multiplayer.

Any special programs needed?

I'm assuming we are using join fs https://pmem.uk/joinfs/ There is a guide on doing the a2a group flights that has some info on setting it up viewtopic.php?f=79&t=63659 I am also assuming that we are using the a2a discord for voice comms. Please correct me if I'm wrong

I've never done the multiplayer thing but hope to join in on this flight, although I have no mic and I have three kids that need attention and maintenance so I may not be able to stay for very long.

I flew 909 at Bradley yesterday and the airport leaves a little to be desired in relation to the real one (at least in FSX).

Sorry I haven't replied sooner, but I'd bought a new 1TB SSD to replace my aging HDD. I thought it would be a simple task to clone it as my new boot/system drive . . .

Silly me.

JoinFS is what I was planning on using, but I usually fly on DigitalThemePark, not The Skypark. And the A2A Discord will work nicely for communications for the flight. I'll be working on the flight plan, times, etc. this week, so we're all on the same page.

Alright guys I haven't flown multi before but have downloaded and installed JoinFS and Discord. I have no mic but I will be able to hear everyone else right? Now I'm guessing I'll need a sever number to join? Like I said this will be the first time for me. I just need to know what to do. I will fly a P-51 since I don't have a B-17. Any help will be appreciated as this sounds like a lot of fun.

This is my first time creating a flight plan, let alone a "mission", so, please be gentle.

Departure/Arrival Airport: KGON;Groton-New London
Total flight time: 1hour, 30 minutes.

Flight plan: KGON N0100A005 4119N07203W 4119N07204W 4119N07205W 4120N07205W 4122N07205W 4123N07205W 4123N07206W 4121N07206W 4121N07205W 4123N07205W HFD KHFD FAPRI 4160N07236W 4201N07238W XOBIJ HUNEE 4160N07236W KIJD 4120N07203W 4119N07204W 4119N07203W 4121N07201W 4121N07202W KGON

Approximate flight time to first flyover (at 5,000ft): 33 minutes (EDT 9:54AM)
Approximate flight time to second flyover (at 500ft): 49 minutes

Pre-Flight/Warm up: 8:30 EDT
Take-off: 8:55 EDT
Assembly: 9:00 EDT
Departure for KBDL-Bradley International: 9:09 EDT
First Flyover: 9:54 EDT
Second Flyover: 10:10 EDT
Arrival: 10:25 EDT

Plan to arrive approximately 30 minutes before takeoff (arrive 8:30 EDT). This gives time to preflight and warmup aircraft, check comms (Discord) and multiplayer (JoinFS), and time to taxi. Parking places will be assigned as pilots confirm their participation.

B-17s will use a light fuel load. Takeoff will be with 20 second separations.

Climb to 1,000 ft at 500 fpm, enter racetrack at 1,000 ft. Once assembled, depart racetrack for KBDL at 9:09 EDT, climbing to 5,000ft at 500 fpm.

First overflight at 9:09 EDT at 5,000ft. At first racetrack turn begin descent to 500ft at 500 fpm.

Second overflight at 10:10 EDT at 500 ft.

At end of second overflight begin climb to 3,000ft at 500 fpm.

At start of landing racetrack, begin descent to approach height of 2,000ft at 500 fpm. Landing order will be assigned at time of approach, with 30 second intervals between aircraft.
