Kneeboard Checklist for the B-17G

Post by Paughco »

Back in 2017 I developed a kneeboard checklist for the Connie, using the similar checklist for my MJ C-47. I created a similar checklist for the B-17 by opening up the checklist for my Connie, and editing it. The file in .htm format, but it was edited in Notepad. Then, I saved the file as B-17G_check.htm to my C:\Users\MyName\Documents\Prepar3D v5 Add-ons\A2A\SimObjects\Airplanes\A2A_b17g folder.

Finally, I edited the B-17's aircraft.cfg file as follows:

//11:11 AM 3/16/2007
[fltsim.0]
title=A2A Boeing B-17G Heaven Sent
sim=B17g
model=
panel=
sound=
texture=heaven sent
kb_checklists=B-17G_check
kb_reference=
ui_manufacturer=Boeing
ui_type=B-17G
ui_variation="Heaven Sent"
ui_typerole="Four Engine Prop"
ui_createdby="A2A Simulations Inc."
atc_airline=Air Force
atc_type=Boeing
atc_model=B17G
description=B-17G-85-BO 43-38414 LN-Y Heaven Sent, 350th BS/100th BG, 1945. Heaven Sent was built on 31st July 1944 and was assigned to UK on 1st August the same year. It failed to return from a mission on 6th February 1945 after it crash landed in Rochseter. It was salvaged and returned to the United States after the war where it was stored at Kingman Arizona prior to being scrapped.
atc_id=338414
atc_flight_number=
atc_heavy=0
atc_id_color=0000000000
visual_damage=0

I did that for all the various paint jobs. My current favorite is "Yankee Lady."

Here's a copy of my B-17 Checklist, as it looks in Notepad:

------------- end checklist ------------------

Here's how you can use it if you want to:

1. Copy the checklist above and paste it into a new Notepad document.
2. Save the new Notepad doc as B-17G_check.htminto your C:\Users\YourName\Documents\Prepar3D v5 Add-ons\A2A\SimObjects\Airplanes\A2A_b17g folder (you need to select "all files" in the file type window in order to save with the .htm file extension).
3. Save a copy of the aircraft.cfg file as aircraft.bak, then open up the aircraft.cfg file and edit the kb_checklists line as shown above, for each version of the aircraft.

Undoubtedly this checklist will be improved with future flights.

Thank you
ATB

Great 3 part series - how to fly B17

Referring to checklist and comparing to movie, does anyone knows why generators are off just after landing ?

Something about their points glazing over if they are left running and RPM is low enough that they aren’t producing a current.
