Strange Halo light over the wing a the actual landinglights?

Post by BertAtHome »

Hello fello pilots

Since a while I have this strange halo effect above the landing lights over the wing on several planes?
I cannot figure out how to get rid of it? Any clues how to fix?

Bert,

Have you made any changes to the [LIGHTS] section in the aircraft.cfg? Those look like they should be emitting just a bit lower to give the lights their flash effect.

Thanks Scott

No I did not make any manual changes to the [LIGHT] section.
I am using FXS:SE and purchased it from Steam with the REDUX lightning add-on included..
It worked fine but somehow a few month's ago I noticed this fenomen?
It probably was caused by some kind of add-on.

Here is a copy of my [LIGHTS] section of the C208B and C172

C208B
[LIGHTS]
//Types: 1=beacon, 2=strobe, 3=navigation, 4=cockpit
light.0 = 3, -16.72, -25.90, 3.85, fx_shockwave_navred
light.1 = 3, -16.28, 25.95, 3.85, fx_shockwave_navgre
light.2 = 3, -42.35, 0.00, 2.12, fx_shockwave_navwhi_l
light.3 = 2, -16.90, -25.90, 3.85, fx_shockwave_strobe
light.4 = 2, -16.45, 25.90, 3.85, fx_shockwave_strobe_2
light.5 = 1, -40.10, 0.00, 10.01, fx_shockwave_beaconh
light.6 = 4, -11.61, 0.00, 0.98, fx_shockwave_vclight
light.7 = 5, -13.5, -15.9, 3.2, fx_Shockwave_landing_light_small // Shockwave light
light.8 = 5, -13.5, 15.9, 3.2, fx_Shockwave_landing_light_small // Shockwave light

C172
[LIGHTS]
//Types: 1=beacon, 2=strobe, 3=navigation, 4=cockpit
light.0 = 3, -2.76, -18.11, 2.97, fx_shockwave_navred
light.1 = 3, -2.78, 18.11, 2.95, fx_shockwave_navgre
light.2 = 2, -3.13, -18.31, 2.95, fx_shockwave_strobe
light.3 = 2, -3.11, 18.31, 2.95, fx_shockwave_strobe_2
light.4 = 1, -20.51, 0.00, 6.20, fx_shockwave_beaconh
light.5 = 4, -2.27, 0.00, 1.45, fx_shockwave_vclight
light.6 = 5, -1.45, -9.1, 2.6, fx_shockwave_landing_light_small // Shockwave light

OK this helps, try changing this line on your 172 as a test:
light.6 = 5, -1.45, -9.1, 2.6, fx_shockwave_landing_light_small // Shockwave light

to this:
light.6 = 5, -1.45, -9.1, 1.6, fx_shockwave_landing_light_small // Shockwave light

This moves it down. If you find this moved that flare effect, let me know. If it does, we could fix it this way but this is telling me something has been shifted globally in the system, and yes perhaps by another addon program.

It doesn't change an inch sadly...

It's probably not an Shock-wave thing.
I have also a kopie of the original C172 from a Aerosoft scenery add-on in de seperate folder that doesn't have the shock wave lights but it has also the offset 'halo' landing lights
Numerous planes in my inventory have this upwards offset for the landing lights? All other light on the planes seem okay to me?
Could there be a parameter in the sim that only change or effect the referencepoints for the landing lights?

Hi fellow pilot's

Sadly no progress made on the subject :-(
I have tried a lot of tweaks, including the trying different Halo.bmp files to resolve the issue without result
Thought I give it another try. Here a screenshot in the dust. Maybe this triggers someone?
Still can't understand why nothing effects these strange landing lights? Not in positioning by changing the coördinates in the aircraft.cfg or overall effect?

Hi

@Scott
Where in the FSX Steam install belong the shockwave effect files. I found them in the ..\FSX\DLC\379233\Effects? But in a previous FSX install they where in the ..\FSX\Effects folder to my knowledge?
Should I transfer or copy them to to FSX root Effects folder?

Regards Bert

Bert,

The effects files are installed into the EFFECTS folder. I wish I had some suggestions. If this was my system and I had no ideas, I'd just completely remove FSX and install from scratch. And before / after every 3rd party installation, I'd check these lights just in case something that was installed is the culprit.

Hi Scott

Of course you right about the complete re-install but that a lot of effort and the overall install works very well. It's only the landing light issue that borders me and I would think this could be solved somehow?
Even if I completely disable the Landing Light in the [LIGHTS] section of the C172 and other planes. this effect still appears and can be switches ON and OFF using <CRTL> L ??

Thanks Bert

Hi Scott,

I am very happy to announce that we SOLVED the problem. :D
I had the idea to search my whole FSX folder structure for files that contained the *halo*.bmp term and found that the REX4 (Real Environment Extreme) had a whole bunch of tweaked halo.bmp files in their folder structure!
They use it for tweaking all sorts of airport lightning. So what I did was selecting a different airport lightning theme and it SOLVED the problem.
I think REX4 had probably a corrupt/faulty halo.bmp file in one of their airport lightning themes?
Nevermind I'm glad it's fixed now. :D

Thank you for your support and keep on the good work
