Hello everyone, I could use your help in finding out the correct fuel capacity specs for different models of Corsairs. I started researching these specifications and quickly found that this data is very hard to come by from any qualified source of information. Online information, as expected, is totally fubared and usually plagiarizes other sources or just rounds off numbers. A lot of online information is just downright incorrect. I also don't want to be the barer of bad information with my Corsair repaint uploads, so I started to try and pin down specific specs. It's not as easy as I thought and could use your help.
I had the privilege of getting my father's old collection of Airpower and Wings magazines, but even decades of those publications only had two articles on the Corsair. Two! It is difficult for me to grasp the fact that such a popular and successful aircraft has so little written about it or provided online. I am looking for data for specific variants without speculation from earlier variants. I don't have books on the Corsair and would like to hear from those who do. Anyway, here is what I have found so far.
(Keep in mind that there was an F4U-1 model that was not the same as the A-model, and very different from the X prototype.)

INTERNAL:
F4U-1: 237 gal.
- Wings magazine, June 1995, P.11 & P.33 (author Freeman Westell)
- Squadron Signal F4U in Action, P.7 (author Jim Sullivan)
Only the XF4U-1 had internal wing fuel tanks:
(Quote: ...the Corsair's four integral wing leading edge fuel tanks, with their 175 fallons, were replaced by six .50 caliber machine guns and their ammunition boxes holding 2350 rounds.) - Wings magazine, June 1995, P.33 specifically about the F4U-1.
(Quote: "The internal wing mounted fuel tanks were removed and the space was used for the installation of six .50 caliber machine guns...) - Squadron Signal F4U in Action, P.7 specifically about the F4U-1.
F4U-1: ?
It is logical to assume that the "1A" internal fuel capacity is the same as the "1", however this data is not specifically stated for the A-model Corsair.
EXTERNAL:
F4U-1A: (DISCREPANCY)
178 gal. (Duramold single centerline drop tank)
- Airpower magazine Sept. 1989, P.20 (author Jack Dean)
165 gal. (Duramold)
- Wings magazine, June 1995, P.17 (author Freeman Westell)
F4U-1D:
154 gal.
- Squadron Signal F4U in Action, P.8 (author Jim Sullivan)
A2A F4U-1A original settings:
[fuel]
Center1 = -2.500, 0.000, 2.000, 187.000, 0.000

Re: Corsair fuel specifications
Yes, that's the type of thing I'm looking for. Nothing better than factory info. I have one Corsair flight manual but not the ones on that link you posted. Getting this info like pulling teeth lol.
Thanks DVM ^5
