Are paints compatible?

Post by Shalomar »

Can 32 bit or old paints be used with the V4 version of the Cub? If not could we get a separate paint thread?

Thanx

I don’t have the Cub, Donald, but I put all my FSX paints for the P-51 into that model successfully. Try it and see what happens!

Actually guys, existing FSX paints aren't fully compatible as the P3Dv4 Cub (unlike the P-51 for P3Dv4) uses physically based rendering (PBR).

A separate thread for finished paint schemes is probably a good idea. :)

Yes and no....for the most part yes although there is a new naming convention for the V4 version.

The shots in this thread were from the original paintkit created today. https://www.a2asimulations.com/forum/vi ... 62&t=69484

edit: What Nick said :)

As mentioned, you can make old paints usable by re-naming older textures. Here's one I've had for some years now...

Image

New textures seem to be DXT1 with mipmaps and no Alpha channel, whereas old textures are DXT5 with no mipmaps and the Alpha channel seems to be ignored.

For this particular paint re-name...

PiperJ3_t.dds --> Piperj3_albedo.dds
engine.dds -----> Engine_albedo.dds
Pit1.dds ---------> Pit1_albedo.dds
Pit3.dds ---------> Pit3_albedo.dds
Pit4.dds ---------> Pit5_albedo.dds

Steve.

There are little changes in the layers where for an example the pads on the struts have pieces not painted. The view from the outside shows the cross bars in the cock pit with black areas. There just needs to be a new paint kit. :wink:

We will have an updated repaint for the community. Please see Mike's response here for the repaint question;

A lot of old paints can be made to work with varying degrees of success but there are changes to be made aside from the PBR changes, hence the new paintkit.
