Hi.
Been re-painting a metallic skin recently and this shadow problem came back to mind.
It's only noticeable on metallic paints as far as I can tell. Is there any chance of a fix for this?
Thanks
Steve.

Re: Shadow problem
It might be an issue of the engine. Got the same problem on the RealAir model.

Re: Shadow problem
Thanks Lewis. Anything the modeller can do would be greatly appreciated.
I've seen the same effect on the P-51 and T-6, but to a lesser degree. If it is an engine problem then that would be up to LM to do something about. Not holding my breath on that account.
Steve.

Re: Shadow problem
Hey guys.
While messing around I noticed that the P-51 does not have this shadow problem. This leaves me to conclude that something got overlooked in the model for the Spitfire. Is there any chance that the same solution (whatever it is) can be applied to the Spitfire? It would be much appreciated.
A2A Spitfire (P3D Pro v4.5.13.32097)
A2A P-51 (P3D Pro v4.5.13.32097)
Thanks.

Re: Shadow problem
Hi Steve,
ROB has investigated this issue, and it seems to be a platform limitation. The effect is present in other aircraft too, but how prominent it is depends on the geometry of the model in question: shape, fuselage width and the canopy structure etc. With the narrow fuselage and cockpit of the Spit (compared to say the P-51) the effect is unfortunately more pronounced. This is presumably why the RealAir Spit is similarly affected too.
Also, the more 'polished' the metallic effect, the more noticeable the artefact becomes. The attached screenshots show a couple of examples.
In short, I'm afraid there's nothing we can do about this at the present time.
Cheers,
Nick

Re: Shadow problem
Thanks Nick. Somehow I was afraid you would say that but I guess I was hoping against hope that that would not be the case. So basically. Thanks to the narrow fuselage and an inbuilt P3D limitation or fault. We, as in us painters, have been hoist by our own petard.
Give my thanks to Rob for me please and thanks again for looking at it.
Steve.
