I planned for the 12th, but see another flight already in. So on to the 19th of July
The Piper Cherokee turned 60 this week. Although actual dates are sketchy, lost in the murk of aviation history. But it was born in te first half of 1960 and went on to a 37k production cycle, even 55k if you count in the Cherokee Six and Seminole twin, both based on the venerable little do-it-all.
The first Cherokee saw the light of day at Vero Beach Naval Station, the previous "Home of the Hellcats", as the F6F was produced there during wartime.
This is where we start our trip. From there we will tour the Cape Canaveral Space Center grounds. From there towards Daytona, Smyrna and land at St. Augustine, the USA's oldest colonial town.
